Lately we have seen an increase in impaired driving incidents involving the ACVW community. Some have resulted in the death of loved ones. Unfortunately the US and Canadian censorship boards think we are too fragile to handle the truth and refuse to show people the end result of impaired driving.

As we all know the ACVW offers very little protection in the event of an accident. Drivers can be impaired in many ways other than alcohol. Drugs, texting, lack of sleep are just a few. So before you go out, play it safe and don't forget about the other guy. Drive defensively.

About 4 years ago in my home town an impaired driver hit and killed 3 teenagers that were walking home, on Father's day. He did not stop at the scene. Instead he continued driving another mile where he parked his car in someone's livingroom. He got 7 years total. The families got life. Too bad he never saw a video like this.

Hopefully it will save the life of someone you know.

Thanks for the Vid. It should be required viewing for everyone.
I don't drink and I have never sent a text message in my life. If I don't answer my cell there is a recording that says "I don't answer my phone while driving, please leave a message".
I'm too old to give up my life now because of stupidity.

Graphic videos should be mandatory for new drivers. I work as a highway patrol officer in California and see the results of impaired/distracted driving all the time. Most of the accidents could have been prevented and involved otherwise good people. Take your time, pull over to use any device, use designated drivers, and look out for one another. Hope you all have a safe new year.

Graphic movies used to be a part of driver's education in Maryland. I think it was the Ohio state police that made the "Signal Thirty" films - extremely graphic recreations of the events leading up to fatal accidents and then actual on the scene footage.

They don't show them anymore, but I think they should.

MD state police also had a device they called The Enforcer. You sat in a seat and it rolled down an incline and crashed with an abrubt stop at the bottom. It was only a 3mph crash, but it really showed first hand the importance of wearing a seat belt.

I guess they can't do these things anymore because people got injured emotionally.

It's called every 15 minutes. It leaves an impression but people still do it.

Thank you to the moderators for not deleting this thread. It is important that people, especially new and younger drivers have the opportunity to witness what can happen in the blink of an eye.

I agree that this sort of video, although disturbing to many, should be manditory viewing when getting a driver's license and every few years after as a refresher. Maybe even used on television to get the point across.

Here is another I found about cell phone use.

To the moderators. Can this thread be made a sticky?

I agree that it should be show in drivers ed classes as it use to be and support it being shown here. The people who are so entiteled to drink and drive will do so no matter what you show them. I have been forced to listen to the storys of getting away with it my whole career because of my chosen profession. If you truely want to make a difference go after the attornies who specialize in removing DUI charges.

Great videos, but unfortunately most likely won't be seen by the people who need it most. Just yesterday in front of my house there were two separate accidents. We live on a corner of intersecting streets which one is a two lane interstate. At the corner is a red light easily seen from over a half mile. Both incidents were minor fender benders, one involving three cars, but each involved someone either texting or talking on the damn phone and not looking up at what was stopped in front of them. As Ron White said, you can't fix stupid - you can only try to drill into young brains before they start to drive what the consequences will be. Sadly, most of those brains won't retain the information for more than a week..

You are right in that most will not see it if things are left the way they are. Feel free to post the links to your facebook pages. Share the info.

DUI's are such a big problem in the military that on some of the bases they put some of the cars after theyve been recovered at the exits of the base. Its a reminder of what can happen to you. On one base those cars go right below a sign that says how many days its been since a death caused by a DUI.

Thank you for posting the videos. I believe that they should be part of the drivers ed classes too.

I went to a "new drivers" event at the speedway a couple months ago. They had some booths set up where you could experience safe driving on a simulator and even where you could put on the goggles that simulate how being under the influence affects your vision. Then, about two hours in, they sat everyone down in a tent with a movie projector and they showed similar videos of actual wrecks and accidents that resulted from impaired driving. It was really intense and graphic. And it really did show some of the people watching how serious it is to drive impaired. So, these videos definitely work.

Great vids and I'd be a hypocrite if I said I never done it. Now I won't even think of having only 1 if I have to get home. People's lives are at stake when we take the keys and go. One day we'll all get it and stop doing it.

Most of us have done it but I am happy to say that this new years eve when I got to the party, the first thing I did was give my keys to the host.

I can say I've never done it but only because I prefer to drink at home. Never could understand why you would want to pay twice as much for something you cam find in your fridge. I also grew up in a town that alowed us to drink as teens as long as we were safe. One of us always knew a kid that lived on a farm. We need laws that consider any amount of alcohal illegal, not a limit. Most of the rest of the world has already figured that one out.

Relatively few countries have zero-tolerance laws. That's probably because it's very, very, very difficult - and impossible to predict, even for a teetotaller - to be sure that you'll have a zero reading.

Most European countries are .05%, with some (inc UK) at .08%.

Where the UK (<400 drink/drive deaths nationally, out of a 60+m population) gets it right is not so much the actual blood alcohol level (0.08% isn't that high, in reality) but in the penalties for those caught. If you get stopped by the Police, and there's the slightest suspicion, then you'll be blowing into the handheld machine. If that comes up anything but green, you're down to the station and blowing into the big and very precise machine or rolling a shirt sleeve up for the doctor.

If you're even a snidge over, then you're looking at a minimum one year ban from driving. When you get your licence back, your insurance will be very heavily loaded, and you'll have to declare that to them for the next eleven years. If you get caught a second time in ten years, it's a minimum three year ban. Get caught driving whilst banned, it's jail time.

If you're involved in a fatal collision whilst over the limit, even if your driving was deemed merely "careless" rather than "dangerous", it's very serious jail time - maximum 14 years.
