What size is the rad and is it a 2 core ? |
The rad is 14x18" 2 core rad. I have done a few different configurations w/ fans and scoops. Pictured was the first fan I used on this new rad. 8" Mishimoto.
Lets just say hello 220! Now the day I tested it was 95 degs and I may not have gotten all the air out completely. I've made that a pusher, no go. puller, no go. I've added a scoop for both tries. I've ran w/ the scoop. I've put a 14" in the engine bay. I have put a 14" fan on the the rad acted as a puller and a pusher w/ and w/o the scoop. The 8" fan is about 900 and change cfm's and the 14" fans have 1,460 cfms. May need a stronger fan or just kick myself in the balls for putting a VR6 in a slammed bus _________________ Just me and my Bus!

Maybe you need 2 ?
Could/can you couple/daisy chain 2 of them together using some of those silicone hoses? _________________ My '65-Subaru EJ20 Turbo conversion |

Been wondering how your bus was doing...
For what it is worth that new rad looks small. I run a much larger rad and two fans. Perhaps that might help with the cooling challenges.
Being lowered I assume has an impact on the amount of airflow under the bus. My bus is lowered 2.5 inches and I have no overheating issues. I will say on hot days that I'm on the fans more than I'd like but that is the price you have to pay.
My next rad upgrade will be similar to the one that Skills is using.

you need to be careful here...I did try that and the issue is the pump has too much head to overcome and it takes a lot of pump to move coolant thru 2 radiators.
his only way out that I can see is a custom radiator, and possibly the addition of an external water pump.
what is base temp in a stock VR6 car? you need to figure that out and select your cooling strategy based on that. and, you need to read ALL DATA via the ECU and what the ECT says...not an aftermarket gauge.
what so many guys fail to realize is the factory ECU is the benchmark in accuracy. unless you are going to gear up with quality diagnostic equipment you will just be pissing in the wind.
another thing is his gearing. stock 091 gearing is NOT conducive to that VR6...so when he's doing 60 at 3200 rpm's in a VR6 car that's like driving 40 in 3rd.
there is so much more than "stuffing an engine in" to these conversions most are willing to admit. it's all in the combo, period.
pretty confident I can get it to cool _________________

A year later still going. Think I may have found my cooling issue. . Replaced it w/ the high flow schimmel performance water pump. definitely made a difference. Stayed pinned at 195 degrees. I like that! _________________ Just me and my Bus!

That'll do it, your conversion made replacing the water pump the easiest job EVER. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Yeah, the water pump is easy as hell to get to! Now the thermostat, that's a totally different story! That's a pain to get to! _________________ Just me and my Bus!

Since you have given your bus the name BUSTDBVR, I thought you'd appreciate this...

When things are looking on the up and up.
Then you take a step back and a new design is up to bat b/c the vision was there but the output fell a little short. Gonna have to add a side filler neck.

Mockup of what it will look like done!
Getting there! Just gotta pull the cover tight, screw the top to the piano hinge and bolt the bench to the body to finish the bench then onto the throttle cable! _________________ Just me and my Bus!
