I went pretty early at 7. I expected it to be packed early. It didn't start filling up until 730. A pack 10-12 mustangs, mopars, bunch of jeeps. A ferrari, mclaren, and lamborghini got a lot of the OOHS and AHHS.
My favorites of the day were a jaguar XKE (I think) and a 62 corvette.
There was only a passat wagon who parked next to me and 2 golfs/gti that came. A couple people came and took a closer look at the westy. Talked to 2 people who seemed to know a thing or two. I should have taken more pictures I will next time.
It didn't seem as populated as previous pictures suggested. Could have been the wind/cold.
I might go again next week. I may even attend the Katies Cars and Coffee on saturday in Great Falls, VA.

Everyone for the most part just clique'd up. Mustang guys all but disappeared into Dunkin donuts and never came back out, the jeep guys only talked to jeep guys, the mopar guys talked to mopar guys, etc. I was happy to answer any stray questions people would ask me. |

LoL. I went alone. I grabbed a coffee and made a couple rounds as new cars came into the lot. After that I sat on the floor with the sliding door opened and pepole/car watched. One older gentleman actually asked if he could come in and test out the front seat (had it swiveled and table out). We sat for a while out of the wind drinking coffee.
The person who actually showed the most interest was a middle aged lady who poked her head in and just took it in. |

I heard that as well. They have a class structure for parking and proximity to the coffee shop... fancy and expensive and rare cars seem to get dibs on the closest spots. It is first come first serve parking though. Not sure where the vanagon fits in. |

I'm up for Katie's, I take my Westy there a couple of times a year and it gets pretty good interest among the Ferraris and Lambos. As mentioned parking is first come first serve, get their early and get a really good spot out front to turn some heads.
Can't do this weekend but would be up for the weekend after on Oct 22nd, figure it's two weeks away maybe enough time to rally a couple of us and show up in full force. _________________ '90 Westy |

Alright folks, let's get the plans together for our outing to Katie's Cars & Coffee for this weekend.
Recommend we get there at 6:30AM to get a good spot, the meet up generally runs 7AM-9AM.
Location is:
Katie's Coffee House
Village Centre
760 Walker Rd
Great Falls, VA 22066
More info is here: http://katiescarsandcoffee.com
Let me know who's interested. _________________ '90 Westy |

Looks like the rain will be past-- which didn't look likely 2 days ago. But I had something came up that would make me leave almost before I get there, so I think I'll have to pass. If you folks decide to put it off a week (yes, supposed to be warmer then), I'm more likely to make it. And the Katie's site indicates that the 29th will be the last Cars event there till spring!
But in case we do gather the 29th, I'm wondering if there's anywhere to stealth camp not far from the Great Falls area? For that matter, do they ticket-and-tow if you "park" overnight at Katie's? Saves getting up early to drive out there! |

Next weekend should work for me as well. If anyone else still wants to go this weekend I may still end up going there this weekend as well.
Katie's runs all year, even though it's much quieter in the winter but I've been during Thanksgiving Saturday and it's still pretty busy.
Not sure about stealth camping, it's a suburban area but I don't know how strict they are about parking overnight. _________________ '90 Westy |

The while at the output end of my tranny is getting worse-- pitch goes up with road speed, not with rpm, so must be at the output. Last year I heard someone mention a Vanagon Tranny rebuilder in VA, somewhere in the central area. I just called the Westy rental guys in Staunton (and btw, they have discontinued rentals, only do repairs now), but they didn't know one nearby. They send their tranny problems to Oregon! Alaric has a guy on Long Island, but if there's a closer rebuilder, I'd like to find it. Anyone? |

No help on the trans thing.
El Sabroso hosted a little get together at Richmond's Dogwood Dell this morning and he had several folks and their vans turn out. I got there a little late but arrived in time to meet some folks and see some vans. I got some pix and will post.
*edit for some pix*
Here are some photos from the Richmond meetup that El Sabroso organized last Saturday.
This Multivan is Jon's.
This one belongs to Popsvan (Rory); it's a grey '87 like my own.
Frank drove from Charlottesville in this one, the same van I spotted on my drive up to the C&O Canal and about which I posted a couple of weeks ago. In the immediate background you can see El Sabroso's slammed yellow Westy with its new 1.8T conversion, and further back is Phil's white Westy. Another fellow drove his red Eos down from NoVa because his Vanagon is in ailing.
