|
|
I was informed on another thread that Westfalia campers were based on the Kombi model and not the panel model as I had thought previously. Does this mean that they all had 6 popout windows without screens? Or did Westy also replace the windows with screened windows of there own?
Part of the reason I am interested is because I have a Standard bus that I put a Westy bed in and I noticed when I was sleeping in it that there is no way to ventilate the cabin without letting mosquitoes in. So then I was thinking of maybe installing camper windows with screens, if I found a good deal on an original set...
I noticed Westys like these don't appear to have screens:

Westfalia did use Kombi's as the base models. The louvered windows you are asking about appeared with the So42 and So44 models in 1965. The 3 windows down the drivers side all had those windows as well as the windows on the cargo doors and the last rear window on the passangers side was a solid window as stated by 66split.
Earlier Westfalia's had the regular stock pop out windows with the exception of the latch on the left side cargo door. It was modified in order to clear the cabinet/coset.
BTW, most Kombi's only had popouts on the rear most windows unless ordered otherwise from the factory. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

my old so-23 was a tourist delivery kombi that only had the 2 rear popouts... and since one is in the closet it got a little stuffy unless you had the hatch open... not to mention the lack of screens. in FL its muggy and buggy to say the least. i had what looked to be "westy" screens for my roof hatch and rear hatch. they were probably home made, but that bus had (and has) a bunch of weird stuff on it since it was a late '61 and a UT model... just might have been early experimentation by westfalia. _________________ drive it. break it. fix it. repeat. |

PLF has the rear hatch skeeter net I think
My sundial kombi has screens all the way around, the windows are identical to the westy windows for some reason. hinges for popouts on at least the rear two, I havent looked to see if they are on the other windows, that will give me something to do today....... _________________ Stop dead photo links! Oh, is that where you leave the hatch open for ventilation and a net covers the whole opening?
Dawn still owes me a snap in cab divider to match my curtains, that reminds me... _________________ '74 Westy |
