I think a split wheel will not fit your fine spline shaft.
But you could take a 60s three spoke standard wheel.
Those look very similar and are not that expensive. _________________ Master of my domain! |

You should look for one of a late standard. Like that one in a police car.
Those have the fine splines that would fit to your car.

Finding an NOS one will be diffcult.
Keep your eyes on the classifieds here, other web markets, on ebay, at swapmeets, where ever and find a used one. Ebay Germany might be a good source. With the right keywords you find one there if you look for a while. _________________ Master of my domain! |

Really have to have one - here you go. http://www.kaefer-nostalgie.com/content/steering-wheel-3-spoke-style-black-1955-64
not cheap, but about the going rate for an (relatively) early VW 3 spoke steering wheel. You might also check with Koch's VW to see if they might have a restored one for about the same price. Again, just make sure its the later wheel with the correct splines. These come up from time to time in the classifieds. However, I know of no reproductions - you might check flat 4's website as they do repoduce several VW wheels. About the closest you'd find (I think) is a black 3 spoke banjo by Flat 4 - http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Flat+4+VW+Stee...tedIndex=5 as an example. |

Take your time and buy a nice used one for 100 or 150.
No need to spend more. _________________ Master of my domain! |

In the US? Doubtful, given that run of the mill late model oval wheels needing restoration go for that, but one can always hope (and search). |

Maybe not in the US. But as I said, keep the radar on.
Ebay Germany for example spits those out once in a while. _________________ Master of my domain! |

I just picked up a 3 spoke steering wheel, button, column and turn indicator for my '53 for $50 last month from a local guy clearing out his inventory.
The trick is to not be looking! If you need a part you can never find it in your price range. _________________ 1972 Westfalia Bus

Don't the three-spoke standard wheels also need the longer steering column from the pre-1960? The dished wheel had a shorter column I thought. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

The split-era standard steeringwheels with large splines work on late fine splines as the number is double but not viceversa.. The late standardwheels have the turnsignal returnlip though that the early wheels dont have.
The Standard beetles refered to here are basic models without trim and other fancy stuff. They were available in several European countries and also Canada up to mid-60's. _________________ ~Kris~

Standard steeringwheels are not so available. I saw few splits and split three spoke steerinwheels until now and only one standard. Fridolin never And standard beetle never. _________________ Oval 1954
