Did you pull the trigger on those tail light holes yet? |
Not yet, I know for a fact that I have factory fenders in the rear. They are from a 62. I used this picture for reference
[/quote]
My issue is that when I checked the measurement from center of 1" hole to bottom of fender I get 7 and from center of hole to 14 1/4 mark I get 7 3/8 the exact opposite of what is written. Also my 14 1/4 extends past the straight part of the fender. That might just be an optical illusion in the picture but it looks like he is saying the straight edge is 14 1/4.
So I figured I would mount the bumper and see what the taillights look like when held up close to my marks _________________ Ethan Dunlap

The interior looks killer. You should look for a red Bambus tray for it _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

yeah I sure wish I had one though. I'm still kicking myself for not buying one when I saw them advertised. What's even worse is that I had this interior built back in 2010, so it wasn't as if I didnt know what color interior I was going with. _________________ Ethan Dunlap

yep, but I do believe you have a lot cooler accessories than I have. I am also very interested in your seat belts.... |
They're just 3" Simpson latch belts from Summit Racing. I bought a set of Simpson cam locks but they looked too modern. Might suit your build more than mine as I was going for a vintage speed look. I really wanted P47 belts but couldn't justify the $1600 price tag for new ones. I bought a set of originals but I couldn't find a shop to replace the webbing.

Well a couple of nice things happened today. Got my seat belts in from Jegs. Thanks to Envious for the tip on those.
And big hurdle on the interior. I got my seats back from the upholsterer. They are currently sitting outside in the sun. Arjona said to let them warm up so all the wrinkles from shipping will come out. Worst case scenario I will get a heat or steam gun after them. I am going to wait until the headliner is done next week before I install them, but I thought I would at least put a few shots of them up.
the worst wrinkles are in the rear seat, I am guessing because it was such a large piece and they were folded up several times.
My wife also made me a custom club sticker for my back window. It was hard to take a picture of due to the lights in my garage.

I love the custom touch of the Wolfsburg emblems, and the way the stitching highlights them. Looks great. _________________ Gone but not forgotten: 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1966) - another 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1996) |

Well I have done a shit ton of work this past week but nothing drastic enough to take pics of. I spent a full day adjusting the doors and getting the body fully bolted down. The doors went rather smoothly. A little adjusting at the front beam area pulled the door gaps right into shape. Most of the time was spent finishing up the wiring.
I did end up switching the gauges out with ISP gauges. I prefer the white needle over the red.
old gauges:
new isp gauges
went ahead and added a tach
I am hoping to get my ragtop and headliner installed next week. So I started putting all the pieces together.
I had my ragtop mechanism restored by Al Silvas. He did a wonderful job. Everything was powder coated, hook was chromed and all new stainless hardware. He also polished my factory rails. I have no complaints with his services.
I replaced the tension strap. I used a dog leash as recommended.
I also replaced the knobs on the window cranks that I had re-chromed. I was going to paint all the interior knobs, but after test fitting everything I think I am just going to leave them alone. I removed the old knob and found hardware that would bottom out and allow free movement of the knob. I then used the strongest thread locker I could find, so hopefully they will not back off.

Well it was here.....
and now it is gone...
It is off to get the headliner and ragtop fitted.I sent it without the hood and decklid, with no motor I didnt want to chance someone pushing it by the hood. Now I am taking this chance to clean the garage up a bit and fit the engine tin. I am fitting two sets, Scat and Empi. I figured as cheap as tin is it wouldn't hurt to have a second set painted in case I scratch the shit out of it. Also I have never had a chance to compare the two brands.
This is the empi set:
notice the nice gap between the shroud and cylinder tin
I am still working on the scat sure fit tin. I will report back.
I will leave you with a little Head porn.......
