|
|
Hello. Did a search with FAQ, forum, old volks home, 'net, Bentley, and reputable vendors for tune up part numbers. '85 seems like a transition year.
All is well and secured the parts from VC for our '85.
My question is what the black outer cap is used for on the 89-91. Our 85 had one on and I transfered it over to the new cap not knowing. If it's redundant, I'll remove it. If it's a no harm-no foul I'll leave it.
My guess is added noise suppression?
Thanks, _________________ Peace, Regis |

Still searching. I was on the GW site and they have some info comparing the 86-88 and 89-91 caps.
In my case with the 85, I'm thinking a no harm- no foul having the outer cap.
If and when I'm back in the engine compartment, I can always remove it. _________________ Peace, Regis |

it used to be a metal cover - over the distributor cap - with a small cable to the body of the distributor - to filter out static interferences to the radio reception. Later on it was replaced with a black plastic cover. I guess it's for the same reason but I can't figure how because it's plastic. Mine has it too, I take off or leave it on, there's no difference, may be the technology of the radio improved so much and it renders that cover obsolete?

Cool. I have seen the metal piece that was used.
It appears that one of the PO's of our '85 used a , hey this fits, cap. _________________ Peace, Regis |
