In the Air Force I was stationed at Grand Forks AFB, ND. I was surprised about how nice car bodies were - I was told because it was too cold to use salt so they used cinders (ash) instead - not sure about that aspect. There were a bunch of old cars that had nice bodies but the interiors went to heck (when you sat on super cold vinyl you could hear it crack and pop).
I drove a 74 super beetle (fat chick?) and on cold mornings a line would be at the dorm door to get a ride - she always ran but with 4-5 passengers we had to leave the windows down some to keep from frosting the windows so bad we couldn't see - sticking your head out a side window was not pleasant at 30 below.

More rust repair and crack repair. Lots of stress cracks in this car. Not too worry, it'll be perfect before its done.

Does anyone know who might reproduce a wiring harness for this car?

Thank you!

The RockGuard went on yesterday. This car was originally undercoated, so I'm doing as much as I can to duplicate that look and protect the car into the future. It will also provide great sound deadening.

one thing that the body guy has noticed is the lack of paint under the dash and on the bottom sides of the car. He mentioned that it looks like it was hand painted. I know for a fact it's the original paint, so it doesn't make sense. Does anyone know if at some point when the car maybe would have left the main line at the factory for the RHD dash, do you think that at that point it was more of a hand finished vehicle at that point?

Just curious

I sourced a 36 hp. Case for the car. It came with a 40 hp, so I found one closer to the build date of the car. August 1959.

It was no different than left hand drive cars.

The undersides of the dashes on many of my original cars, including the original paint '65 in my profile pic, are filled with runs in the paint and oaint inconsistencies.

More progress on the body. Everything has been rock guarded underneath now. The body is off the rotisserie and the apron has been pulled out from what looks like was a minor fender bender. Not much left and we clear.....This is going to be a NICE car!!

I might have the body back before the end of the year. I can then get start reassembly work. I have most everything I need to restore the interior. I need to get the seat frames powdercoated yet, but once that is done, it's go time on those as I have the padding and covers. I still need to order carpet and a headliner.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat. Scrubbing the impurities out of the rust pores on the roof. We are so close....Should be shiny by the end of the week!
