That body style is the same as my first beach buggy. I recognize the partly inset shell headlights, the pointed nose, and the little swoop under that point that provides a flat place for a front license plate. I have no idea who made the body though. _________________

It really is a cool body style! I like what they did with this one. _________________ Caleb

Great finds, Caleb. Really brings back fond memories of growing up
and around the whole Buggy/Baja/VW experience of the 60's in So Cal.
Keep up the good work! _________________ ...everyone has something to teach you.

Thanks you guys! Anytime I find a cool period photo I try to remember to post it here. I figure it is a good resource for someone doing a build, or just a trip down memory lane! |
Your pics are a great motivation for me, 'cuz they rekindle the different thrills these fun buggies can bring. Many thanks! |

In the picture of the back side of Tow’d that sure looks like Dean and Ken Lowry, and Gene Berg who is talking with the woman on the right.
I wish you would post where these photos came from. _________________ Joseph

Almost all of them come from google searches when I am researching my build, or random Facebook posts with no context. _________________ Caleb

I'm very impressed Caleb, I've been looking for photos of this particular Manx on and off for years. I've never seen it from these angles before.

I do have some info on this one, posed on FB by Barry Burly Burlile:
"Since today is Corvair day, here are a couple of pics I took in 1965 of driver Don Wilcox's Crown Manufacturing sponsored (Corvair engine conversion kits) early Meyers Manx fiberglass monocoque (1 of 10) dune buggies. Read the story at the end, this thing was unbeatable in the era of the first Cobra's, XKE's and Corvette Sting Rays................this buggy inspired me to sell my hydro-matic equipped 56 Corvette and get the first of many VW's............"
Here is the article:
