|
|
I'm running an old ARPM two piece case.. noticed the indention and I started thinking..
Is the indention in the casting in this area meant to be machined for a cam gear sensor?

Doubt it..... Cam sensor were never really a VW thing.... Only real sensor was on flywheel for diagnostics.....

So, if not for a cam sensor, what is the indention cast in there for? |

I do agree on stock engines. But on an ARPM case?
What else (if it is for a sensor at all) could it be for? |

How just about a characteristic of casting.....And nothing more...

Let's not speculate...Instead take a measurement from the centerline of the cam to that detent, and see if it makes sense for a cam sensor location.
I don't think that's a casting characteristic, but who knows.
I'm leaning more to the fact that it may be a possible sensor location, but only a measurement will tell. From the pic it looks a little to far outboard???? |

If I'm not mistaken, ARPM cases were out of production long before crank position sensors were used, let alone cam position sensors. I could be wrong? _________________ Jerry...

Anyone know the last year of production for those cases? |

From what I have read the cases were produced from 1982-1985, and A-RPM was sold to Dee Engineering in 1988.
Got that info from this site:
http://deanodyno-soars.com/history.html
I was thinking about starting a thread dedicated to A-RPM stuff. So far I have the case, the generator stand, and an air filter top. I know that they also made heads and I've seen an A-RPM shifter for sale in the classifieds before. |

It looks like the indention on my case is about the same distance from the cam centerline. I will measure and post what I find.
Is this your engine? I was wondering how you balanced the cam and gear.. |

FWIW, later cases did not have that indentation in the casting. _________________

Why not just make a custom set of wires with a Y splice in them. Then you could just run one distributor. |
I don't think electrickery works that way |

Looking closer (not on my phone) it looks like a drill index mark.
It appears to be in the same location as the oil galley restrictor/plug on
a stock factory case.
I'll bet that's all it is.... |
