We just installed the latest Vintage Air Digital Gen VI into a Vanagon.

Glove box completely usable still Very Happy

The new system AC and Heater are smaller than the original heater system. Bower output seems more though..

I put one of those in a 55 Chevy. Excellent quality. They have different controls available.

Did a hit and run this morning posting...

Vintage Air can sell a compressor with their kit. Our lucky customer has a 1.8T engine conversion so the compressor is from the engine.
Probably can use the boxer compressor. Or at least a new/rebuilt unit if your existing compressor is tired.

The cost will vary on compressor need and vent options.

There are several different dash controls and also many different vents available to choose from. I liked using the horizontal slider because it matched the original sliding levers. The chrome though, not so much.

Very simple system to use. The top lever is blower and is a variable. There is not a "switch" type fan speed feeling. All levers slide like butter Very Happy

My experience with tubes for the A/C like that is they rub and get holes (from our K1500 that we have)... Has this been an issue with this type of setup?

Didn't that big plate sticking up in the center interfere with the dash? Maybe the camera angle makes it appear so tall...

I do no dig that big black plate with screws you can see.

The radio mounting also, in both cases, does not give me a warm fuzzy.

I guess it is a compromise and you get cold air in the front which is what you want....in addition to heat.

I have to deal with this myself sooner than later.

I know the Behr setup(s) I have horded work, but not as good as something like this.

Compromise.....

The mounting brackets had to be fabricated from that the kit supplied. The digital system allows you to direct your air between modes easy and instant.

I used existing vent tubing where it could be used. Defrost side and face vents have old

I'm not happy with the stereo location and may need to be changed. Having front A/C - heat with this dash stereo mod would be nice Laughing

This system looks so nice I might have to sell the behr in-dash unit I have sitting in the garage. What is the story on that dash with the double din opening? Is there a thread on it anywhere?

Thanks for the link on the dash, I feel inspired to try this. I'm thinking that the sterio could stay in the stock (and possibly be enlarged) location and the old lever control opening could be utilized as a vent location.

How does the Gen IV handle the fresh air opening? Is it blocked off or reduced in size?
