So I picked up this Bus Thursday a.m., Just before the "Big Snow Storm", it was 5 degrees out when the tow guy arrived.

He hooked that Blue Bus by the towing eye on the right rear bumper arm, ol' Blue didn't flinch or bend just towed right out of the Barn, nice & easy..., on the truck & home ...

I put a good Battery in her, a couple glugs of gas & she fired right up !!
Drove it up & down my road, 10 degrees on a sunny February morning !!

So today I got to clean her out, on a nice 25 degree Sunday...

The story goes like this, in 1995 when we moved to Vt. I spotted a Westy Bay in a gargae right on the edge of the Town Green, you could just see the top of it, I tracked down the owner, no, no sale. About 8 years later, the Bus is out of the garage, the house is for sale, I call the Bus owner, nope, still going to Resto it, someday Rolling Eyes BUT His brother has a few Buses to get rid of Shocked , so I hook up w/ the bro, strip a '67 Sunroof Bus & a '68, get a friend to haul away the rotted bodies, the next day, he is so happy he gives me a Beater Ford F150, I drive it home, use it 6 years & sell it.
Fast foward, 2013, I remember the Mom had a Bay in the garage, make some calls......... Done.

Here is the worst rot on the Bus:

Awesome find. I wish I'd kept my bus cloud white/brilliant blue, it looks better and better every time I see one in this condition. Cool

Awesome find! You know the drill? All fuel lines-change!!!!!!
Have green book? Memorize.
Be sure to rust proof everything, inside and out, open all the panels! Now is the time and you'll never regret taking some extra time on this. Be sure to get in all, repeat, all the nooks and crannies underneath, take off the heater tube cover, get inside the front box beams, inside the rockers, in the cross beams, jack supports and outriggers, do it all! If you can't, then spray it all with oil, yes, oil. Not wd40, good heavy stuff.
Green with jealousy, good luck, more pics!

I assure you, this isn't his first VW. He knows exactly what to do with it. I smell a flip.

Mirror is an early 68 Mirror before they changed to breakaway. Kind of odd for it to be in that vintage, but as you said, hacking has already occurred.

The other Bus I stripped years ago on the property was a '68, so it might have come from that. They do have a bunch of parts in boxes I need to haul away, and the rear seat. It is missing the Deluxe trim on the rear corners & hatch, I'm hope they are in the boxes , along w/the seat anchors.
They used the Bus on their property & around town, it has a trailer hitch & wiring for a trailer. Over the next few weekends I'll be cleaning it up, put the seats in, I really just can't wait to wash it & buff it out.

So I was told a Lady drove the Bus from "Out West" , the engine died on the trip, and some how the people I got it from ended up w/ it, and the husband & a VW guru rebuilt a engine thats in it now.
I also found this VW ID card, from Crestveiw Convelescent Hosp. in Portland Oregon.

I left a message asking if they had a VW shuttle Bus back in the day, but I doubt I'll hear from them... Confused Laughing

Badass score Tom! Cool

My bus is from Portland too but I've never been able to track down the dealer. Have you deciphered the M-Code yet to get more info on it?

The dealer brochure for 1970 lists the Hospitals address as a dealership
(It's under "Portland 20")
