Yes, or a wood dowel or a rubber dowel, or a sanding disc, or a wire wheel. You can google search videos on engine turning or machine turning.

You'll get the best results by using a vertical mill so you can control how much you move it each time.

You can do it by hand with a drill but it's difficult to control the pressure.

Ideally you'll have even controlled pressure from turn to turn as well as controlled movement.

Practice on a scrap piece.

I worked on the rear laugage tray. I found some 1/8" felt and 4' wide micro ribbed rubber mat that was a almost perfect match to the original

Here are a few pics

Is there anyway to do this at home? My subhatch trim needed to be cleaned and in doing so removed a lot of that texture.

yep, it's called engine turning. I'd bet Gibbs can show you how to do it, it's done in sign painting (and lowrider striping) all the time

eastwood used to sell a kit, but I don't see it now

In german this pattern is often called "Pfauenaugen" from the german word for peacock and eyes. Really the big feathers

Good idea. Can I reserve it for November 4th-7th? I've also got 4 Great Danes, is that a problem?

Greg, you have a great sense of humor, the 4 Great Danes cracked me up. I am so sorry, but the bus has been spoken for for that weekend. Mary and I will be camping in it, we are so excited to finally graduate from sleeping in a tent. I can't wait.
