thats what I would suppose as well, that is why I asked where the stove is. It is in the same location as my '58 however is a bit different. Maybe some kind of weird transitional/one-off bus (heres to hoping!) or its a decent reproduction interior put in to an early subhatch. People often copied westfalia interiors 'loosely'....
A spring frame which is what most '55-57 westys had is a very simple interior without cabinets like this bus. The bed is simply a spring frame that pulls out towards the cargo doors from the long wall. Its very open in that style of interior, the earlier interiors are minimalist. |

there were also slight differences in the interiors in other markets than NA so perhaps its from somewhere else originally? Whats that front plate? I've seen westy literature that has obvious, but minor, differences in interior types. It is missing the vents on the stove cabinet and its curved not square like the ones I've seen. Also the closet door is hinged on the opposite side to most, although I've seen that in literature....interesting mystery to figure out for sure. |

congrats on the find and best of luck with the purchase.
If it turns out to be a 57 or 58, I have a set of correct tail lights for it that I would be willing to throw your way with some cash for the tail lights that are on the bus. _________________ SOUTHERN INTEGRITY AIRCOOLERS

It could have been purchased in 56 and brought to Westfalia for conversion by the owner in 57/58? They did seem to have some different options available as seen in this 60 http://www.ssvc.org.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=61953 . Not sure why it wouldn't have semaphores though if it was a German market bus. _________________ "Love and good roads" |

I wouldn't think so much in terms of value unless your are just going to flip the bus. It's value should be what ever you and the current owner come up with as far as the trade goes. If you are both happy, then that's what it was worth to both of you. You should drive it for a while before you decide to sell it. Once you see the awesomeness of driving a bus over a beetle, you will want to keep it. If you do sell it, you will end up with this phrase in your head that will haunt you forever, "Man, I shoud've kept that one." _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

I thought I saw dove blue wearing through on the parcel tray. Light gray was not an option during those years. It could be a number of westy specific colour combos including something similar to its current repaint. Is the dash beige? Regardless of whether you sell it or keep it, make sure that it doesn't get parted out and that the tent etc all stay with the vehicle. It will mean alot to someone else down the road even if it doesn't mean it to you right now. Having a complete og bus is cool, I have been trying to complete mine since I got it and it's not always an easy task.... |

Being german delivery could explain some of the peculiarities with the interior, same goes for being converted later on in '57-'58. An early tourist delivery bus? Either way, a cool bus for sure. |
