Thanks Kam, LOVE that! It's a bit more than I was planning on spending right now, but put it on my summer list! It does not have a battery, right? So it only works during the day (light)?

Actually, when I bought mine it came as a package deal that included a NiMH battery and multiple connectors. I see now it's no longer on Amazon. I used that battery once and discovered it's pretty useless; battery drained charging my phone and the phone didn't get completely charged. Rolling Eyes Using the panel by itself works far better. But all of the little connectors the battery came with are slick.

And, forgot to mention: I got a Little Red Campfire back at the first of the year... it's awesome! I love it! Very Happy I recently bought a 5-pound propane tank to use with it on road trips, since lugging the big 20-pounder is a bit much.

Which 5lb tank did you get, from where and what'd it cost? That was on my list last year, but I had some old large BBQ ones that were full and the BBQ went to Natural gas, so I used them up camping.

GLAD to hear the Little Red Campfire is a hit, I'm pretty excited about it and so are the kids, but am going to have to sneak that puppy past dh, he won't be impressed. I got a serious eye roll last year when I suggested it and then a legitimate, "where are you going to put it?", with more colourful language. So, Kam, where'd you put yours? I think I pack my back the same as you w/ 3 Rubbermaid buckets, and I have my table rack holder thing there too. Kind of leaves the Vanagon floor, won't get that past him with out noticing. LOL Once we use it when we can't build a fire, he'll be sold, I'm sure!

What goes away from Amazon, comes back if it's good, will wait and see. Want to get some a couple of those cheap little chargers for various places and almost ready to get my wheel hardware, waiting for the weather to warm up enough for an overnight trip!

Manchester brand from Ace Hardware (ordered online, shipped to store), somewhere around $55.

They ship to CANADA, for FREE! Cool

Yup, free shipping, but it will literally come on a slow boat from china. When I order stuff I usually end up getting a bunch of other stuff just because it takes so long to ship.

They have lots of cheap phone cables, screen protectors, etc. I got some apple dock connector to HDMI, card readers, 3meter phone cables. etc.

Now they only have the 11lb ones. How many days does the 5lb one last you? I usually use 1lb/day +1 extra one a trip. So, that 5lb one sounds perfect. CT has them for $50, so that's perfect too! I looked and looked last year, maybe I just didn't buy it soon enough and they got them in and sold out too soon.

You know the lifespan of a propane tank? Once mine get 2-3 years old, I take the big ones to one of those swap places and they give me a fresh clean new one. LOL [looks like 12 years, then every 5 years they need to be checked]

Good to know, order now for the summer! Still waiting for something from ebay to arrive from last month...hate that and always only order one thing at once, slows my spending down. Wink

I lengthened the poll to support the back table leg. I was using an old toilet plunger, it fit perfectly, but wasn't long enough. So, I took a painting poll from the Dollar Store and cut it, planning on using it instead, but it was a bit too big. So, I merged the two together and it was just right!

Then, finished copying Tim's step. I made mine 12". I tried the 18" pipe and should have kept it for in a few years, but for now it's too tall for YDS. I painted the wood I put on the top of my step and cut a piece of self adhesive grey carpet on top.

Voila! Still need to paint the entire thing, have yet to find the matching grey, for my stove!

Only thing worse than camping in the rain is not booking a trip on a long weekend b/c there is an 80% chance of rain and then instead, having a beautiful warm sunny weekend instead! Crying or Very sad

At any rate, got lots done this weekend instead!

Finished re-doing the table I was working, for now anyway.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=594420&highlight=rubber+table

I cut 1" off the side of the table (was damaged beyond repair) and 1" off the end, wanted to be able to open that closet better and moved the plate. Then, had to get the rubber back on:

I can live with it, for now, but am not thrilled about it. Tried glueing it, didn't really help any. The Brad Gun did help, might do some more of that. Though, I suspect that I did not pull the rubber tight enough and that is part of the problem. New Rubber would solve the problem, but then I'd have to spend more money...Which would be fine if I had no table to start, but I did--I just couldn't drill holes in it. Twisted Evil
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The table is now small enough and/or in the right spot to open that closet door most of the way, no cutting required. Yeah, my great idea that worked! Very Happy I had a good laugh when I realized I cut the 1" off the skinny end, off the *wrong* side of the table, so it didn't give the table that 1" I wanted to completely clear the door and/or car seat. It's fine, if I hadn't been cutting the inch off the side to fix the damage, I'd never have cut the table in the first place, but leaves a larger gap between the table and stove now. AND

Re-did my cutting board:

Much happier with this one. $4 at a re-purpose store! It needs a foot so it doesn't rock around and I think I'd prefer a skinnier one. I had to cut the hole for the tap larger than I wanted so the board would clear the tap, but I can live with it, until I find another cutting board that is! LOL

New 17mm and 19mm sockets to be kept inside Vanagon should I ever have a flat $10. Torque wrench to put them on and some sort of socket wrench to take them off already in my tool box.

Total Cost WAY too much.
The ease of driving had better be priceless! Wink

I also found some single sized Ice Cube Trays at a Dollar Store:

And, cut two of the cups off, so it will fit in that little slot in the fridge. Thought (and hope) it will help keep the fridge colder!

I've moved onto lights. Or should I say, back to lights, as it seems to me I did an entire post about lights, lights and more lights ages ago. Apparently, I like lights! Smile
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=439269&start=180

After finishing the LED strip and getting the bar LED strip up, I started to put stuff back for camping. Then realized I should take some pictures. Then realized how messy and cluttered I am! Shocked

At any rate, since there were some cool things that I like, and not everyone loves to shop as much as me, thought I'd post it anyway!

Tool kit:
http://www.amazon.com/GreatNeck-21043-32-Piece-Ess...k+tool+kit

Both boys ride in a Frontier w/ 5 point harness.
http://www.amazon.com/Britax-Frontier-Booster-Seat...x+Frontier

This is the new version of the seat. And, both links are American.
http://www.amazon.com/Britax-Pioneer-Harness-2-Boo...x+Frontier

That table I shortened and re-cut awhile back, now lets me ope the closet door most of the way. If I did not have brain damage and had cut the correct end, it would allow me to open the table all the way. I'm going to pretend that was the more damaged end. Rolling Eyes
The fabric covered 2" foam for the top bunk extension. The board to hold it. Then the blue bag w/ the cows and clouds holds our window hanging bunk. I'm not sure I ever took pictures of the finished product. Will have to go back and look. Love it either way!

That fan was from Amazon, I don't see it now, nor do I love the on/off switch plugs into the Cigarette lighter behind the driver's seat.

Swim bag, ready to go, in a Dollar Store laundry bag.

Random snacks and water for screaming children. It doesn't work if you're curious. Actually, often makes the younger one scream more b/c my eldest can reach and he can not.

Potty talk to follow, My Carry Potty:
http://www.amazon.com/My-Carry-Potty-14-1000102-Bl...arry+potty
No, I did *not* pay $50 for it. I paid ~$15 second hand on CL. Unlike the other kids travel potties, this one closes up and stores the mess until you get home to clean it. Like the other ones, if it's going to be a messy job, I put a grocery bag in there to help clean it up!

I used this one for my boys when they were young, didn't like it nearly as much. http://www.amazon.com/Kalencom-2-in-1-Potette-Plus...s=kalencom

And, yes my boys are potty trained and have been since walking, but poop emergencies happen and that is not as easy as my usual, go find a tree if you can't wait to find a bathroom. My boys are not allowed to pee inside the Vanagon. No way, no how!

I also finally got around to putting the last two screws on from when I took my stove plate off. I had to drill a hole for the one of the right. It was painful. My Old Boy did NOT like it. I will pay the price soon. But, while the one on the left wouldn't go in before, it went in no problem now. I almost think that the gap got wider though? Maybe I'm paranoid and crazy. Confused

Always good for a laugh, either way!

Thanks for reading! tam

Finally got a blue one of these, then realized black would have been better so it blends into the dash better. Don't want someone breaking into to swipe this!

Can these battery packs stay outside in the winter, when it freezes? Don't really want battery acid (or what ever is in them) going all over the place if it freezes and explodes!

School is out for the summer and it is time for fun!

Wanted this done for the summer, not to spend the summer doing it, so I sucked it up and had it done.

More batteries, a charger, another 12v plug, and a fuse panel.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Something to keep track of how much we're using. I was planning on getting the ARB fridge this summer, but the Canadian dollar is too low, so waiting for it to go back up again...
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

A dose of LEDs here, there and everywhere! This switch is for the ones I put in over the bench. I'd been using a battery pack. Now they are hard wired.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Ready for LEDs over the back.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I'll have to get a picture with the LEDs attached. I used self adhesive ones and stuck them under the bench, will see how they stay stuck. I don't think it's a problem, the kids are still in car seats, so their legs don't actually brush up against the bench.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Finally, another 12v/USB outlet for the boys while we're driving. I had it put inside the cupboard, so they can leave their charge their portable chargers there ready and waiting.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Last but not least, can't really take a picture of this one, but new front bigger breaks. Can't wait to try them in the city (when people cut you off) or in the mountains next week!

Happy Summer Travels everyone!

I'm going with GW Big Brakes. They were supposed to be installed today, but I forgot that Christopher from T3 told me when I upgraded my brakes I'd have to replace my wheel hardware...My guy thought I'd ordered them when I ordered everything else, as I should have...so, now he's ordering them and will put them on when I get back from the Okanagon Falls. One more drive through the cannon with sad old slow brakes! Will let you know how/if I like them. Planning on going to Nelson later in the summer.
ThankYouJerry wrote:

Thank you, that is my step, (mentioned earlier on this page), I put the paper towel on there and it works well. I have a second one hanging off a bungee cord (with carabiner clips) at each end. You can never have enough paper towel with kids!

FWIW... I've had the latest version of the GW "bigger brake kit" (aka Gen II) for about 1.5 years. Although they are a good improvement over stock, I still don't think they are amazing. A few months ago GW announced that they will be selling an even bigger ("Biggest Brake Kit" - Gen III) but it has yet to be listed on their website. I will consider it once I know the details. If I decide to stay with the Gen II version I will probably add the BMW booster mod for improved pedal feel (not that it actually improves braking, but I'll probably like the illusion of improved braking). YMMV.
