My friend just bought a '77 Westy with an automatic, and the shifter handle/button is missing. Does anyone sell new ones, or failing that, will one from a Rabbit or other water-cooled car work? Thanks. _________________ '69 Beetle, '69 Beetle Convertible |

He tried every VW salvage yard he could find online with no luck. After noticing the Vanagon and Rabbit ones *looked* the same, I went looking for one locally, and all the yard had was a Porsche 924 automatic. Perfect fit and looks exactly like the stock Bus one! It had a VW part number but I forgot to write it down. I never thought a part like this would be so hard to find. _________________ '69 Beetle, '69 Beetle Convertible |

Just wondering if you ever got that part number. Be a huge help in tracking one of these down. _________________ ============================

Just a note here, there are two different types of automatic handles. Not sure of the cutoff date but my '78 one has an entirely plastic handle with side thumb button. Even the mechanism in the metal tube of the actual gear selector is different. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

I saw that earlier when someone had mentioned the 924. It had the side button but mine has the two levers underneath the shifter that you pull up on. _________________ ============================
