Hi all. I just bought my first VW and I'm rebuilding the carburetor. It's a Solex 34pict/3. The instructions say I should use a .5mm metal gasket that came in the kit under the needle and seat . When I disassembled the carb it had one of those in it plus a thick fiber washer. Is that one supposed to be there or just the metal .5mm one? |

I'm thinking just the thinner .5mm copper washer. It seals and also put the valve where it belongs.
If you have trouble after rebuilding (like I did; it leaked at the throttle shaft), have Tim at Volkzbitz rebush it for you. He did mine and the carb is like new.

The thing is, the needle and seat, or the float, could have been replaced before, and the extra washer was used to set the fuel level in the bowl. OR, whoever did the previous rebuild just added the wrong washer. The fiber washer does not belong there, but I have added them before to set float level.
I'm trying to remember, but I think the fiber washer may go on the bottom float bowl plug. _________________ Brian
