|
|
Good evening!
I just changed my generator from an modified beetle one, to a type 3 with type 1 pulley (the type 3 pulley was ruined), and i installer new brushes in the generator. I have driven the car for several days with no problem, but today it wouldnt start. It clicks like the battery is dead, but i cant understand that. Of course this happened when i had to catch a train, so i had to leave the car.
Is it possible that new brushes need time to break in? Or does the bigger type 1 pulley not spin the generator fast enough? Something Else? |

Check the fit of brushes to be sure they ride square on the commutator and don't bind in their slots. There is more than one size available.
They might take a little while to bed in but you should get some decent charging regardless pretty much right away.
Do you know if the generator worked before you put it in the car?
Do you know how to test the generator? There are several good threads on this process. |

Yes, double check the brushes themselves.
Also, was the new generator polarized (you make it run like a motor)?
If both of these check out, then you might have a Voltage Regulator issue, or a bad connection somewhere (could even be inside the new generator). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
