I buy my Mahle piston/cylinder sets from a vendor that will open 20 sets at a time and then repackage them by matching weights. I've gotten 4 that were dead on the same without any further machining. He does charge a few dollars extra to do this. |
Me too, now I'm curious. |
Thread resurrection?
My current set I've been running for several years now I bought from Aircooled.net. I don't know if they still pick through sets and match the weights.
Wow, I did a quick search to verify my memory, and they've got a TON of P&Cs! Check them out, I'll let you find them!

Who's the vendor? |

Might be Berg (pick-of-the-litter).

If it looks like Swiss cheeze, they used a drillbit to put ten million dimples on there. It will work but those dimples can hold oil by capillary action and really offset the balance job.
And endmill cut is cleaner and cuts flat will be my choice.
Stock Mahles can be out as much by 5 or so grams. but 20 grams is a LOT to take off. You gotta be creative w/ the cuts without hurting the integrity of the pistons.
That is a nice SouthBend lathe pictured up there. Matching bed stop and taper attachement too. NICE! |
