So, I just got back from driving 200 miles round trip to look at a super beetle north of chicago. I was interested in the whole car, but it was pretty rough. The engine is a 2016 Have some receipts from MOFOCO for machine work etc as well as another place I forget the name of.

It has a pretty large diameter exhaust system on it, guy said he wanted it to breathe, but a webber progressive sat atop the engine with no preheat, so that will have to go. It turns over smooth with what feels like a TON of compression and the oil was very clean.

I have a pair of 36 drlas that probabvly need a rebuild, a pair of webber 40s that are up at MOFOCO, and the 34 icts That I am currently running on my tired tired engine.

I know guys have run stock carbs on big engines, and it's an option short term, but I am wondering if I'd be able to get this engine running temporarily using my icts.

I know anything shy of double barrel duals isn't going to be ideal, but I'm wondering if it would be worth the effort to run it with the icts for awhile and get the 40s rebuilt for this engine and the 36s rebuilt for the 1915 I'm building, well, it's up at MOFOCO as well. I had them assemble the short block and open up the case and heads. They had their hands in this engine in 89. Which may or may not be a good thing =P

Edit: Info provided on engine is this.

2016cc, stroker II counter weighted crankshaft, engle cam 286' duration, 410 lift, 042 cylinder heads with 40mm intake, 35.5mm exhaust valves, HD springs, high volume oil pump, lightened flywheel.

You probably go it cheap because of the missing 1cc...

Yes, it will run with the ICTs. I use them for the fact they will start and run just about anything. If you have a decent cam they will idle rough and may be poortly off the mark, plus you are aware the engine will run out about 4500 rpm or less?

But they will run, and once you get on the cam you will be surprised how well 'till they run out.

I've found that if you have a longblock you need to get home pull the passenger seat, and slip it onto the backseat, the longblock then sits on the floor between the seat rails, I've also transported my toolbox like that occasionally.

SMART

Sounds, like you got a good deal. If it were me I would at least tear it down and put some new bearings in it. At least you will know what's in there.

Sell the progressive on craigslist for $75 and buy some bearings.

If you need to rebuild the Webers it is very easy. Weber Carbs Direct has a kit for 20.00 for each carb. Buy the Weber Book by Tomlinson. Run them and you will be happy.

Probably should pop the Oil Pump cover to see what Cam it has so you can then tune it to it. If you don't know who the people are can you really trust them? In fact I would pop a cylinder off to make sure it is what it is. Top of the piston should have the size of the piston. Should be able to see if the crank is Counter weighted and the case clearanced. Was sold a 1776 that was supposed to have C/W crank and it turnout to be stock and a 1641 to boot. The 2016 thing has got me wondering. As it is either a 2007 or 2017. 78 crank or a 78.4 which most are.

Do you have any Idea of the mileage? Really most folks don't hot rod a VW motor for a daily. Do a Compression Check and go from there.

I just tossed it in my car since I am out of town all week for work to see if it would run. It seems to have ridiculous compression. It fired a few times and got hung up after a few minutes of cranking. My buddy showed up to pick me up for work this week and I had to walk away from it.

I have receipts but the are all from 89 and are mostly for machine work. Apparently MOFOCO did the shortblock.

Not sure what could have hung up the engine after cranking for awhile like that, but I put a wrench on it and it turned over. Didn't make a horrible sound when it happened, just a slightly peculiar one. I'll probably drop it and pull it apart. Hate to put the other engine back in since my oil is like liquid glitter in that one, but it still runs great. It just makes me nervous.
