LOL - that is an exactly the same as my door until I finally installed a black window crank.
I plan to install Pioneer TS-D1002R 4" GoWesty was (is?) selling these. I ran the P/N and found them a year ago at an overstock place so cheap, I figured something was going to awry. But they arrived. Now if I get through the mechanical list, I;ll get them installed.
I'd like to use the stock grills, but requires grinding off the mounting tabs on these. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

These would have been perfect. I found them for $50 somewhere else, but it didn't show that same grill:
http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=23319
Too late for me. I'm now sporting new speakers in my door and back cabinet:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_43774_Kenwood-KFC-1054S.html
I like them they're fine. Very affordable. Fit. Windows open. Sound is a bit flat. I put the grill on sideways, to take care of the window crank and door closing issues.
The guy at stereo store suggested a Bazooka Tube. Will go do some research on that, would have preferred better speakers to start with! LOL
Thanks again everyone for the help! _________________ 1987 Vanagon Westfalia GL Automatic

I have the same speakers in the stock location. No problem with door handles. The speakers rock! _________________ Westy HID Projector Retrofit |

Opinions on Polk Audio DXi 400s? |
I have the Polk 4" in my doors. Coupled with a bazooka tube under my rear seat, they sounds great. I've always been a big fan of Polk since I bought by first pair back in the late 70's. Still have them... _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

Can one of you share the model number for those? I'm looking for something really good that will fit in the stock location. thanks _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

I just installed a pair of Focal PC165's in the front doors with dynamat insulation. The sound is amazing. I have a 50w kenwood receiver that pushes these speakers. The speakers sound amazing and are loud as hell on the highway with the windows down. I highly recommend.

Just did this last night and this morning.
Installed these with crossover in the front
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65C/Sound-Ordnance-P-65C.html
These in the back
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P57/Sound-Ordnance-P-57.html?tp=105
Along with new Go Westy front door panels. I used the old ones to do a template. $150 existing JVC deck is nothing special. It sounds great no distortion. Took about 3 hours on the passenger and about 30 mins to do the driver side.... No real cutting or anything since the rear was cut out for the last set of polks that were in there.
5in Hole Saw worked great for the fronts. Perfect size.
I chose the tweeter location as it did not interfere with hands and the recess in the door allows for me to use full length screws with v nuts
Crossover on the passenger door fit in the space on the door the original speaker did....
Mounting
Cut outs
6 1/2
Tweeter
Mounted Pass
Closed Mounted Pass
Driver Mounted
Rear

Thanks!
I had already relocated the power window switches and opted not to put the plastic map pocket back on to keep it clean.
I wasn't sure I would like the all black going from the grey cloth but I like the clean look...
Door panels were really easy to work with.... _________________ 87 Syncro Westy

Another Option: Focal 5.25" CoAx in Stock location
Grille mounted on trim Panel / Speaker Mounted in door:
Spacer used on window crank (Van-Cafe):
Focal Grille trimmed with Dremel to reduce height:
Same speakers in the rear, separate Sub and Amp. _________________ '88 Bostig Westy |
