Car - 54 Oval
Problem: horn
I have re-wired the horn with a simple push button switch, which isn't working. It must be something simple, so hopefully someone can help.
Original power wire goes to terminal on horn, reading 6 volts
Other wire runs from 2nd horn terminal to push button, which has two terminals. I then installed a ground wire to the 2nd terminal on the push button. When you push the button, the grounding should be complete and the horn work...right? |

usually the horn button would send a ground signal to trigger a horn relay, then the relay would send out a hot signal to the horn, with the horn being grounded. did you test your horn with just a hot and ground to make sure it is good? _________________ Rebel Wire Representative

I have not, but it did work before I stripped the car down.
Should the power wire go thru the switch then? Not the ground? |

If I'm reading the wiring schematic, 1954, the switch looks hot, not the ground as the button should just be picking up ground from the steering tube when the button is installed.
If it's still dead check the steering coupler ground strap and the the ground pickup on the the tube as well. _________________ ::: Slowoval ::: LaDawri Sebring ::: '61 Creampuff ::: Dust Storm '66 ::: |

Onebadbug:
I completely removed the original horn wiring...wanted something simple:)
I'm wondering if the original ground wire (which I used) is not complete, meaning torn in between the horn and the button I installed |

Horns that sit often get stuck, try wacking it with the back of a screw driver while someone holds the button... earplugs are a good idea during the procedure.
Also any chance this horn grounds via the body? (IE not the original) |
