While hopefully they understand the issue with the tail pipe location, that is a terrible response to a potential costumer |

I don't think that the tail pipe location is way off.
As all ready stated the Abarth exhaust for pre 55 and post 55 weren't the same.
I had this OG Abarth for pre 55 cars for a couple of months notice the pipes sits closer together and clears the rear valance with no issues.
Btw I took if of because I thought it was to noisy so now I'm back to my homemade one.

it has been available for a few weeks now. I've got one ordered, I did ask about apron placement, and they said that they make just the one type, with clearance for the pre 55 aprons, kind of a shame if you have cutouts like I do, but I guess it's better than blistering the paint. they did direct me to these pictures for apron vicinity:
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.573221782749688.1073741835.111413262263878&type=1
They also said that they were having problems getting into their youtube account to upload a video of it, but they did assure me it had the distinct Abarth sound....I guess we'll see. |

Spoke to Ken King in Calgary. He told me that he lent VS an original Abarth to model their reproduction off. Ken said their internal baffles are as original and in a totally different league as far as sound and craftsmanship.

AND the one I just got today for my 40hp!!
Dude, seriously the though, the quality of these mufflers are insane. The welds are exceptional, and the adjustable components will make for a nice custom fit. I'll post some pics after my install soon. _________________ 64' Pearl White beetle, type 113 sedan. Purchased in Hamburg Germany, driven for a year via vw tourist program, shipped to CA in 1965.

Any more video's for sound comparison? Has anybody heard both this muffler and the WW one, do they sound similar? I'm hoping it will be nice and loud......mind you, I'm not sure how loud I'm going to want it after a week or two My stock pea shooters seem to be audible from up the street, so I can only imagine that these are going to more "pronounced". |

That looks nice!!! But it looks like it won't clear a non-cutout apron...
I was planning to order one for my 53 Rag fitted with a twin port 1600. So the question is will this version clear my apron? _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia - Sold

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression that it was specifically designed to fit under pre 55 aprons, just as the WW one is. If I remember correctly, the owner of Vintagespeed has one on his 52 split. perhaps ts all a matter of how the motor is sitting, as I remember someone here complaining about their WW abarth sitting 3 or 4 inches below his apron.

Just email them.
They have great customer service and I'm sure they will be able to answer your questions, maybe even custom make you one for your application.
Lots of us here in the UK are running these vintage speed abarths and I've not heard anything but good stuff about them. I'm certainly very pleased with mine.
Nice meaty sounds but nothing to annoy the neighbours with _________________ Aircooled Apparel

Way back when BFY was selling the Abarth repro. mufflers, circa 1990, I used them because there wasn't anything else available.
A few years later when they stopped selling them, I made several batches here in the U.S. out of mild steel with the chrome tips
just barely clearing the rear apron of a beetle. I managed to save about 1/2 dozen mufflers that I'm going to use for
future engine builds. Cheers. Mr. Okrasa

I was posting in reference to this post by joe h. below about the curvature of the pipes:

That I think is the ORIGINAL Flat 4 once made ca. 1985 or so?

I remember someone asking about the WW Abarth pipes on a bus and a few people said they weren't suitable for clearance on a buses rear apron. Did you modify yours to fit or is there something in the VS's design that allows suitable clearance?
Oh, and are those Abarth labels on that exhaust heatproof or just for "out of the packing crate gasps" Joe? I like the look, even though you probably wouldn't see them behind the apron once installed _________________ .

The tips cleared the apron just fine but did hit the bumper. A couple well placed spacers under the bumper brackets gave me just enough clearance for the bumper. _________________ 58 Coral Red ragtop(Diana's car)
