This is my 61 scab, being working on it for the past year and now she's a driver. It used to have a rusted frame, Fixed using original metal provided by Brian the last owner. Now it seats on a 2 inch shorter front end made out of the original, 68 bug trans, all new brakes including metal and soft lines, 944 master and new cylinders.

Glad to see this truck finally on the road. Congrats! Great job man! I love that humpback seat.
Wish I could of stuck to it when I owned it but I was neck deep in my 65 deluxe restoration and had to pass it on.
A few pics are on page 10 of my gallery when from when I had it.

Very, Very Cool to finally see this Bus on the Road!

Being a previous owner I will give you a run down of the history of the Single as I know it.

From what I understand from the original owners son, is that his father bought the Bus new. The son remembered him bringing it home to their farm in Indiana. The family used the truck as a farm truck. The Two sons of the family learned how to drive in this Bus around the farm.

I am not sure of why the Bus was parked, but as found it had registered '77 Indiana truck license plates on it.

Fast forward to 2005. The Father had passed away. The truck was out to pasture. and the farm was being rented. The Son had visited the farm on occasion realizing that the Bus had been vandalized by spray paint and the glass being broken out. In 2005 he went to the farm and retrieved the Bus. On his way home to St. louis, Mo., he stopped at Mid-America Funfest in Effingham, Illinios with the Truck on a trialer. This was the first time that I saw the Bus.

The son had a price written on the window, but I sure do not remember What it was. But way too much for me to bite on it at that time.

Fast forward to 2008. I moved into a house in Wildwood, Mo. Kent (KWZ on here who has family in the area) told me about a single cab in the woods nearby under a tarp. But we would have to wait until the winter when the leaves were down to track exactly where it was located.

Fast forward to Jan of '09. Kent called a bunch of us Missouri Micro's Bus club to go see the Bus some 1.5 miles away from my house.
We all loaded in a couple of cold Busses and pulled up at the property of the Og Owners son. We saw the Bus under a shredded tarp down in the woods. But no answer at the door.
A few weeks later a few of us went back with no answer again.

Then Roy (rjonas on here. previous owner and poster) was way hot for the Bus and turned stalker. Found the owners name, phone, e-mail and address only to finally talk the dude into selling the Bus. The son had had plans of putting a porsche drivetrain into it as he had done with some other bugs in his past.

A bunch of us went out for the extraction.

Hooked up the Kabota to the rear bumper and pulled it out.

Here is a pic of Roy and the Original owners son Sealing the deal.

Roy had really high hopes for the Bus. He took care of the missing title making it legal under the correct vin. Unfortunantly he fell victim to having too many projects (http://www.aircooledmissouri.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4505)and decided to move the bus on.

Knowing the history on the bus I jumped all over it as fast as I could.

We pulled it out of his storage in May of '09r.

By mid summer, I had it in my garage and started working on the graffitied inner cab.

Notice the Stag beer tray. I had plans to logo the Single with faux Stag Beer logos.

I collected various parts such as the needed front frame piece and some 6.70x15 bias plys that I was going to runn on it.

Unfortunantly, in my possesion, the Bus sat victim to the too many project syndrom and became storage.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then the city came through and told me that I had too many junk cars sitting around. I sold off some cars out in my driveway and was on a roll so I decided to part with the single too.

Bummer, really. I had high hopes for it too.

Brian came along locally and bought the bus with High hopes too.

He did some good work to it and life came up forcing him to pass it on to you.

Fantastic job man! Glad that you ended up with it and put the work into it! Enjoy Indiana or the Red Roster, or whatever you call it. You deserve it!

I have a lot of pictures in a file on my computer. pm me and I will send you a disk if you would like.

Big Congrats!

SeeYa. Ted.

PS. I would love to see those wheels detailed Wink

Very cool story and truck, I love the SWR commercials. Now I want to rescue that e30 BMW that the truck sat next to.

Awesome story, not every day you are able to find the story of your actual project. Thanks.

On the wheels they will be detail, and I do have some 14s bus wheels painted white with hubcaps to test one it.

I didn't contribute much on that one as I recall. I did have a blowout on one of the white 14s while it sat in the driveway for a minute.
The rack is a large goofy apparatus that has a lower rack at the rear. Still have it for no reason.
I think just some penetrating oil and a little wax otherwise.
I have used linseed oil before to, looks great. Also diesel and vasoline in the sun can do some wonders on old paint, rust and rubber.
Thanks for doing that truck so much Justice, Man.

Awesome. I love reading about the lives buses have lead. It passed through a lot of loving hands. Good stuff!
