Hi Tom
Quite a lot of minor breakdowns and a couple of punctures but 3 majors. I had to remove the engine twice and to change the clutch because of an oil leak (in Nevada, USA and in Bangkok, Thailand) and I had one of the worth breakdown you can except in a right hand drive country : my steering box cover was cracked in Delhi, India. No way to repair the part, to get one there, quite long to get it from Europe (I have another steering box in France) but people there are amazing. They made a mold and a copy in aluminium. After making the treats it works.
Crazy !!!!
Note : Part on the picture not finished.
We tested the part with hundred of curves in the Himalaya.
Le Road Trip approved !

Insane and awesome. This is one of my bucket lists, hopefully we will achieve that dream of traveling the world in a vw bus!
We have two small children (3 and 6) what is your opinion on traveling with children?
Another thing, we are all Deaf and use sign language- this is somewhat challenging, I am sure due to language barriers but I think it is doable. Only way to find out, is to GO OUT THERE.
Kudos to you, and I will definitely be following your travels closely! _________________ Ask not what your bus can do for you, but ask what you can do for your bus.

I think that 2 kids should not be a problem with a westfalia bay window. |

awesome adventure! and great pics! I'll bet you were glad to have those A/T tires and stock height bus when you saw the roads in Cambodia! Did you have any mechanical breakdowns along the way? how about mental breakdowns?! |
Yes mental breakdown is now !
We are in Dubai, we should receive the car today or tomorrow then take a ferry to Iran but the cargo wasn't planned to arrive now (as our agent in India told us), it was planned for wednesday and will not arrive before Thursday. Our visa to Iran will expire on Friday.
I don't know how we will make it. |

It was not easy, we had to go to Oman to get a new visa but now we've got it.
It should be alright and we should receive the car on sunday and take the ferry on tuesday.

California and Thailand are my 2 favourites places so far...
Hefner : Australia, I hope so but for a next trip. Not enough money and time for this trip !
Note : we spent a really good time in Iran and we are now in Turkey. I will post some pics soon. |

What a great trip !
Hoping to do something similar one day but starting in the UK ( after flying out from Australia ) and driving down through France towards the Lot Valley, staying there for a while and then just driving ..no big plan, just drive here there and everywhere.
I spent nearly 2 years down there working and really really enjoyed my time there.
Toulouse was a blast as well !
Safe travels.

Fantastic trip and photos...Kinda curious why you couldn't cross the Vietnamese border with the bus? Safe travels to you... _________________

Crossing Vietnam with your own car is very difficult. You need a guide. Some of my friends in Malaysia and Thailand already drove in Vietnam with their own VW but in a group. If you are alone they reject your requet. We tried to cross 3 different borders, we called the embassies, the Vietnamese LTA and a tour guide but they was no way for only one car. That's why we rent a mopet. It was really fun and we had a ticket for speeding |
