I want to Thank Critter for posting his pics to the Samba, so we can actually see them. I really hate photobucket when looking at older posts. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Whats funny is they are from Photobucket! I guess I got lucky... either that or I pay them a few bucks a month...I don't even remember... _________________ Justin |

Finally got around to fixing the Photobucket pics in this thread. I downloaded all my files and deleted the dodgy Photobucket account. Re-uploaded to The Samba like I should've done from day 1.
Also did my build thread.
Only one more thread to go. _________________ Sydney, Australia.

Thank you for spending the time and fixing the pics.
I just purchased the the SoCal Imports IRS conversion jigs, knowing they might need to be modified, to fit the Type 3 rear, to clear the shock towers.
First test fit of the jigs to my donor Bug Type 1 Rear IRS.
They do not align, angles seems off. Binding before any of the 4 bolt holes ever line up to even start. |

It might need some cold setting with a big adjusting tool. (large hammer.). Im guessing it may have shrunk out of alignment during their welding process and they forgot or did not bother to cold set it back to spec. _________________ Sydney, Australia.

Mine needed hot set.
After they were clearanced for the type 3 subframe they were gusseted.
This caused a bit of movement from the heat (inevitable).
Bolted them to an IRS sub i had handy, and heated them cherry red near the pivots.
Once cooled off, they go on/off a straight factory IRS sub easily. _________________ Bus Motor Build

Thank you for the advise Clatter and Yabbadubbadoo.
I had figured as much, as the jig needing to be straightened and adjusted.
I do have to wonder how many people purchase these, and use them to install their IRS pivots, without ever checking them first.
Did reach out to the vendor and let them know, as well.

Here is the Passenger side of the So Cal Imports Jig tool fitted.
That side is totally satisfactory in fit.
I would trust the right hand side jig to align the pivot point correctly.

Update on Vendor - Never resolved issue and wasted a lot of time.
I was told these are made outside the United States - Unable to verify
Would highly recommend buying from reputable source, like Ron Lummus, which I was unaware even sold IRS jigs, otherwise I would have ordered from him. |
