and, for the record, Eileen, 71Mystaboo, that WAS your bumper that you gave me at the first Syncro Solstice I kept telling people, "it's a rental".
Hey Jeffery, I thought that bumper looked familiar. Although I seem to remember it in one piece!

My first Mogfest was a blast. After the initial shift lever failure and repair I was excited to get out and see what my van could do. Thanks a ton for bringing out the new shift lever Jahbah. Thanks also for about 100 laps in the pit. I had the pleasure of going vertical in every seat in your van except the drivers. I think riding in the jumpseat with a full van, at night, was my favorite.
Here's a good one of you -
The beach trip was really fun for me because I usually play it safe in the sand. I've been stuck so many times by myself and spent hours digging the van out that I'm not very confident. I learned that I've never aired down enough! 12psi is the way to go. I never got stuck even at 20psi but once I aired down I could feel the difference immediately. The ARB deflator Tristar Eric was using is on my wish list.
The last hill off the beach was a killer for me. I tried maybe 10 times to get up it without making it to the top. That 10th time was too much for my left inner CV joint. Crunch. Luckily a big ass Mog was there to help me out.
I was able to drive back to Mogfest under my own power. Luckily I was sharing a campsite with a couple of really nice fellas from the great white north, Photogdave and Squeege boy. Squegee Boy just happened to have a spare brand new CV joint kit to lend me so I was able to get my van fixed with a little help. I've done field repairs before but never in an actual field.
This was some tasty home-brew!
I think it was strong too cause after a few of those I decided it was a good idea to hit the pit in my hightop! View out the windshield right before I dropped in
I hit a few of the hills a little too hard on my first few passes. I didn't realize it until I looked over at Carterzest yelling "YEAH!!" as my front wheels left the ground. I got the hang of it and toned down before breaking anything else.
I had a great time, got a chance to check out some really cool vehicles and met a lot of cool people. Now that I've gotten a chance to meet some of the PDX guys I think I'll try to make it to one of the monthly meet ups.
As SyncroJack explained on my first day, blue vans were a plenty
This was the extent of the damage to my van after hitting the pit and the hole between my camp and those two portapotties
Speaking of porta potties, I noticed they stayed pretty clean and were even pumped out at least once during the weekend. Big thanks to all who put on the event. I'll be back, hopefully with my brother's Pinz next year.
I missed the Pinz rollover but saw the Mog See rescue!

First Mogfest in my Syncro! It was absolutely great, I look forward to helping the VW community to be ever more welcome. This is a great event with tons of great people. And I didn't roll my van!
Met a few new folks including Iridewheelies gang. Lee and Erin caught here in the pit doing a wheelie
Things got blurry in the evening with Kidds beer and Pete's......
Pre-roll Eric did a great job digging out the pit putting in a bunch of work to make this all happen. Thanks Man
I camped next to Jeffery because the load snoring woke me up early to catch him banging around struggling to get out of his van. Only to watch him walk around and around unwrapping it! .
Sorry Zesty I think your thesamba official monologuer!
Leti was happy to bring cookies only if she could crush some cans!
Modified Gullwing Bumpers
So I discovered on these roll-o-meters the yellow indicates the pee your going to have in your pants, I don't know what the red means yet
I think Pete deserves a big up for keeping the Mogs busy towing him out . We did tons of driving and he picks a fun line.
Next time try self recovery like this
A little shout out to our Syncro Solstice friends, I spilled a lil fouty on CarterZests floor in your honor
lil wheelie on the Weezer route
Power slide boys!

Not much time so lets see if I can just get these photos in here.. All of them are from a GoPro Hero3 Black mounted to a DJI Phantom Quadcopter.. These are screen captures from the videos..
This last shot is not so exciting but it's from the most interesting of all of the videos. We are busting down the beach at 15 to 30 MPH and I'm flying the Copter from INSIDE the van in the photo.... A difficult task but the video turned out really neat.. At least for my first attempt at chasing a moving vehicle.. The Finished Video will be MUCH better. _________________ Working on a Van, Down by the River..

AWESOME SHOTS Curtis. Thanks for posting these on here. I cannot wait for your video's. Some of the pit arial shots that you have posted on WetWesties are just incredible.
Thank you for sharing your toys with us I would be so worried about losing my copter over the Pacific Ocean, or anywhere I would fly it for that matter. That takes some skills and patience. _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror! |

On my way to NWMF, Monday Aug. 12th. Got stuck BIG TIME in the sand at the Dunes Park. Sand was very dry, fluffy. No amount of digging, sand ladders helped. A Jeep with very large paddle tires pulled me out. I was at 12 lbs in the tires.
I've tried 5 times to post picture, I don't get it. There's got to be a better way

We took the Thing out on the dunes near Coos Bay before the NWMF. Last year with the paddles it did awesome. Bills is right about that dry sand. Had no problems getting up the dunes but steering was a pain. Just wanted to go straight and turning was very difficult. If I had steering brakes it might of helped. Did get stuck near some vegetation because couldnt steer around it. We did manage to get ourselves out though. Paddle tires dig holes REALLY fast. |

Great shooting everybody!!! :2gunfire:
It was awesome to see everyone again and I had a blast hanging and riding with the PDX crew. Thanks to Zesty, Pete and Dustin for the pants-wetting rides and JKidd for the pants-wetting beer!
I didn't get out shooting as much as I wanted since I spent too much time under the hood playing musical alternators - if you read this Dale, I owe you some wine - but thanks to lots of help from Robyn I got rolling and made it home.
Here's a few shots from my digi. Hopefully I got some better ones on my film camera, and of course video is in the works.
