They thought we had set up a meth lab so had been watching the place for weeks waiting to catch us in the act! I came skiing down to the camp, saw a couple extra people, and thought, "oh cool, some more friends showed up. But why does Brad have his hands on his head like that?".
After making us drag the tarps, carpet, cots, and 55-gallon drum of a woodstove out to the trailhead on skis, the $350 fine was just salt in the wound. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

Ouch! Fortunately, my experiences with Forest Service folks have always been just a friendly wave. _________________ Vanlife Geek

This would have to be modified, yes? The Fiamma has a circular top, but the ARB awning i think is just a straight channel... |

Anyone know where to get one of these right now in these crazy times? Seems like any supplier I check with is sold out. Is there someone out there with a stash they haven’t sold yet? _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

Thanks Dave. Which one of those did you go with and who’s mounting brackets did you use? _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

Thanks for the help Dave. I may have to go this route but shipping to Canada at $225 that eBay seller is a bit pricey.
Now to find a supplier that actually has the Gowesty brackets in stock! Lol _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

4 Wheel Parts has stores in Canada. 4WP sells ARB products, including awnings. Perhaps give them a try, if you haven't already.

The ARB 2500 aluminum awning has been updated. I called ARB 3 weeks ago just prior to ordering my ARB screen room and was told that new product is shipping out. You COULD call them and see when/how to get the critter.

Has anyone had to replace the velcro holder/straps that hold the awning in its case? All 3 of my straps have deteriorated. Having had a chance to find a workaround yet, but just curious. Love the awning and how easy it is to deploy. |
On mine, most of the velcro straps that attach the material to extending poles stopped working after about 2 years. I had to install snaps to secure it.. other than it's been great.
one night it rained and I woke up to see a lot of water had gathered in the center. It was hanging pretty low. It didn't rip though... still works great. the velcro...not s much. _________________ 85 Westy-EJ2.2 Powered |

I think the velcro straps are held in with the rivets.
Kinda hard to change them, but it's possible if you are capable of replacing pop-rivets.
With an older ARB awning you ALSO have to pay attention to the rivets on the end.
They can break because the "guy wires" yank on them whenever you jump in/out of the van, or if the wind blows.
And when one rivet breaks, the next one will break soon.
I replaced my broken (pop rivets) and added more.

I had installed an ARB awning on my 86.
I really liked it, good value for the money.
I'm not ready to purchase but was just browsing to see where prices were today.
It turns out the basic 8’ unit is being phased out, production has ceased.
I see one offered with built in LED lights. ......
Well Whoopee! Not!
They offer a nice one in an aluminum case...... significant $$’s!
Well Whoopee again! ...... Not!
So I followed Dave's links and put a beige 7’6” x 8’2” Yescom in my cart.
I'd rather have Grey but that size is out of stock right now.
I ponder if I should wait for new production, but wonder with the escalating Post Covid prices on many items today, what will new production ones cost?
$170 isn't a bad deal........
Dave |
I'd wait they seem to be making them all the time. Also check Walmart for better pricing than Amazon.

Thinking of buying an ARB 2500 with aluminum case. When looking for brackets
that don’t require drilling I saw this on North Westy website.
“Please note: If you have a hard case ARB awning, you need to buy two sets (four total) of our awning brackets to support the weight, thank you.”
Anyone using 4 brackets? Maybe this is obvious but I can’t wrap my head around where the other two brackets would mount. I emailed North West but they are not open until Monday. Anyone have pictures of this set up?
Edit: can’t wrap my head around _________________ Keep on Busin'
