|
|
I have just put the flywheel in my '85 vanagon 2WD.
I put the 5 flywheel bolts in. I am trying to put the Clutch disc in, but the flywheel bolt are touching the clutch disc. And that means that the disc is not making contact with the flywheel.
I think this is a problem. Can anyone confirm, before I move on? _________________ 1985 Vanagon Westfalia (Subaru EJ25 w/ Peloquin)

Also, the old Clutch Disc looks like the flywheel bolts had been grinding on it as well.
Could this mean that the flywheel has lived it's last day? I did have it resurfaced, but maybe there isn't enough life left in it? _________________ 1985 Vanagon Westfalia (Subaru EJ25 w/ Peloquin)

That doesn't look quite right. The starter ring gear should be sitting a little bit below the outer edge of the flywheel and it looks like you've machined into that. I'd say you've machined it too far and you need a new or a better used one. |

if those are the stock height bolts which they appear to be .
I would say the flywheel has been ground to far , there should be a bevel on the gears which is totaly gone and there doesnt appear to be any meat left on the disc surface .. _________________ http://www.etsy.com/shop/AlphaKnots |

With the ring gear teeth cut like that you may have trouble with starter engagement. As far as the bolts maybe get some flywheel bolts for a late Bay bus and use those, they have standard hex heads which aren't as tall as the socket head bolts.
I really think a new flywheel might be in order. |

Hey y'all,
Thanks for the advice here. I went ahead and purchased a refurb'd Flywheel from GW.
The Flywheel bolts are Brand new. The old ones had quite a bit of damage. _________________ 1985 Vanagon Westfalia (Subaru EJ25 w/ Peloquin)
