But a dedicated thread for "Where can I find XYZ?" or "Who sells ABC?" would be fine as we do allow asking where to get things and if it's all in a single thread then... ok.

Cool. I think we can play by the rules. As I said, I think we should only post when we have SEARCHED and just can't find what we're talking about here, and it's something that's holding us up from getting a car done... in other words, a last- ditch effort.

Personally, I like trading stuff to make it a mutual assist sort of thing wherever possible.

Can you get us a pic of exactly what you need? Sounds like just the binding. Correct?

Shouldn't that be a flexible plastic push on- grey/black on the bottom, off white on the upper part?

OK, got it. Do you need the whole carpet piece, or just the edge binding to sew on?

I've been mad my whole life.

I get angry once in awhile, too. Laughing

Do you have an automotive upholstery shop that deals with classics in your area? If they make their own carpet sets, you could see if they can match one binding or the other. That's where I'd start. If you can send me a little swatch of what you want to match, I can check with my local yokels as well.

If you can find a binding that's close, just have them bind both pieces to match.

The reason I'm saying this is that different carpet/ leather/ vinyl pieces from different production runs age and fade differently, even if they're NOS. Trust me- I'm ripping my hair out over this crap quite often.

Another solution is carpet/ fabric dye used CAREFULLY.

Shaven,

I ran across a 66 not too long ago and got the armrests off of them. The top cover pieces are not in the best of shape (one has electrical tape covering about half and the other has a tear in it) and was planning taking them to an upholstery shop to see if they could match the coverings. The trim on both have a few scratches and dings/dents but with some Racoguy-style lovin, you could get these pieces back to their glory in a short amount of time. I'm offering these in exchange for what I hope to find in your neck of the woods. Since you folks there drive opposite of us here in the US, you have access to your driver side mirrors which would be our passenger side.

I'm not sure if early squares had small paddle mirrors or not but I haven't been too successful in finding a piece to a mirror I was trying to put together so I am hoping to just get the whole thing. What I seek is a passenger side, small paddle mirror (I'm not sure if Australian VWs had this small paddle available for your drivers side or not) so I would like to know if you have access to one. The mirror/glass doesn't need to be pristine as I have glass on standby but I'd prefer pieces without pitting if at all possible. I'd be interested in working something out with you so let me know and we can work out some details. I'll PM you some pics in the AM my time.

In addition to needing a not extortionately priced NOS or used but intact dash for my '69 Squareback, I've also developed a fixation on this clamp for the air cleaner end of the little intake boot. I've seen one for sale 2x in the last 6 months, once for like €35 (!!) and once for about $30-40 in a "package" deal along with the rubber boot, the metal sleeve, and the other clamp. Here's what I'm talking about.

These are almost always expensive...and they'll come back again.

If you want something WAY cheaper but very similar-check McMasterCarr.com-they have a 'quick release duct hose clamp' that's about 1/2 the cost of the NOS VW clamps.

I came across a Type 3, Black DashMat as part of a bulk buy I made last year. I'll have to dig in a bin to see if it's still there. I don't recall getting rid of it. More to follow.
