Ok, so I have been thinking a lot about camping with the family via Squareback. There are mini campers out there that look cool such as something like:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Maybe that is too big, but if you could get something around 800 lbs, that should be doable based on some threads I have read here. Maybe going custom and building it myself would be best, but I was wondering if any of you out there recommend alternatives?

There is always just pitching a tent, which is fine also... and in this scenario, I'd like to see some pictures of your setups if you do anything 'special' in your Square like bedding, shelving or maybe a kitchen setup with the back hatch open?

Just looking for ideas really, hope you can share some.

Go with an old canvas tent and gas burning coleman.

Looking for something a lot more creative than that. Anyone can do that with any car. I think the Squareback lends itself to a more custom setup. Just curious if anyone has done this and has pics to share.

I like the look of a vintage Westfalia trailer or camper.

You can still find a small tent trailer for a decent price. Now tear drop trailers new or old...that's a different story.

Do you know anyone that has a tent trailer? any moans or complaints? The teardrops are cool, but I would end up spending more on that than the car! So an affordable alternative would be great.

a motorcycle pop up tent trailer would be great. then put the kiddos in a traditional tent next to it.

Cool bobnotch... That's where I guess I should be checking out these teardrops. I watched a few build videos on YouTube and it really isn't that difficult. I may just have to try to build my own and add to it as I go.

I will have a couple of these for sale soon. Correct era, vintage trailer that you can put one of those fold out tents on top of as needed. Or just carry your gear in it.

Notchboy, those are very cool... I really like that it is styled to look good with the squareback... I'll be keeping my eye out for the ad. This could be a good option just to have the ability to carry all the gear needed for a good camping trip.

You can only sleep 2 in a teardrop, so they end up just being a cargo trailer if you have kids.

I've got an Appleby Tent trailer - crazy light - I can wheel it uphill/downhill by hand easily. Also room to sleep 4, or 6 in a pinch.

Also for sale...

I like this one, as a snorer I could sleep in the car while the wife and kids sleep up top.

Will you be using this at the 2014 Type 3 Invasion? Would be very cool to see it in person. Cool

I'm curious about where this thing lives when it's not set up to sleep in. On the roof rack? In the back?
