|
|
I am trying to remove the center horn cap from 356 B wheel. I believe you turn cap counter clockwise to remove. Cap does not want to move. Am I doing something wrong to remove? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I did that and will not move. Is there a spring inside that compress's. Button does not move down when I push down on it and try to turn it. |

Holding the wheel may be the problem if it is off the car. They ARE sprung, at least in the locking segments that need to be overridden (3). They do tend to stick if sitting for a long period of time...but they WILL come apart.
Sit comfortably with wheel in lap, press thumbs on 'ears' of center against spokes of wheel held by, pressed by other fingers (opposite squeeze) while pressing down with palms.
If this doesn't work, seek assistance from someone who can hold the rim counter to your CCW disengagement, possibly working opposite on a table (with protection if needed)...wear work gloves- more grip, less fear of an 'ouchie.'
Wondering- how did that wheel come off the shaft if the center is stuck? You may want to spray some penetrant through the hub into the center to 'fog' it and that may help somewhat...but whatever, don't be bashful...just careful. _________________ Bruce Baker

One thing that makes them stick is the little rubber piece gets very stiff and sometimes acts like glue. If you spray lube all into there it can soften up the rubber and break free any bonds. Big John is a firm believer in lube and has gotten me on his side to always soak anything before going crazy on it. You would be surprised at the results. |

The wheel was sent to me like this. I am going to restore the wheel and needed to remove the cap.. I sprayed some lube into center and left it to soak over night. Came back next day and cap came off. I see were the rubber would make it difficult to remove. Now on to restoring wheel. |
