My buddy Joey and I rolled to Bulli last year. 1200 miles for me, probably 1300 for Joey (SCVW).
We had a great trip. I have to thank Joey for hanging back with me at warp speed. (50 mph)

love your bus, and for some strange reason i used to like driving my bus in the rain. the vertical windshield, the relatively slow speeds, rain is not really such a problem, even with 6 volt wipers Smile tons of trips across the alps, france, italy, switzerland, time to get a new bus!

drove the 62 Turkis all the way to Austin Texas a few weeks ago. All back roads from Durango, Co. It took my friend and I two days each way. We were flagged down along the way by a guy who wanted to show us photos of his wifes bus (15 window/Turkis). The Bus ran great ! 2200 miles there and back.

A friend in Maine I've known all my life sent me this. The guy owned a boat repair shop my friend worked at. I think the photo is just a stock photo and not actually the bus. http://www.fishermensvoice.com/201608LeeWilbur.html

Drove north from San Diego to Twin Lakes up by Bridgeport,CA and back in late July for a week of bus camping with my son and friends. I think we did 1200 miles round trip with five buses ranging from my 59 SO23 to a '66 EZ camper. Only breakdowns were an after market anti sway bar clamp broke on the washboard leading up to Bodie and vapor lock on the same bus while heading back in the desert in 105 degree heat at 8:00 at night.

Well, the trip as a whole may qualify for the "1000 + miles" thread but only including the Bodie adventure! I gooloolit and it states 457 miles one way. Cool

Couple weeks back my friends Don and Rebecca Eastman and I drove from Idaho Falls to Southern California for OCTO and Prado. We split the drive down and back into 2 days. We left on a Thursday afternoon at about 3:00. I was pulling my 67 Apache tent trailer and I was also loaded pretty heavy for the swap. We were fighting a 35-40 mph headwinds which didn't help things. I ended up dumping the trailer 30 miles in because I could tell I was working the Bus too hard. From then on it was a pretty fun trip. We had a few minor hiccups but nothing we weren't prepared for. On the last stretch with 45 miles left to go I lost the small oil plug on the back of my motor and dumped all my oil out on the side of the road. It was 10:30 at night and we were so close. Don and Rebecca waited until I could get a tow off of the Interstate and then they headed home. It took me a little less than 3 hours (on the side of the road) to pull the engine, reseal it and shove it back in so I could finish the last 45 miles under my own power. Final tally was 2063 miles travelled.

We are in Green Bay, our fifteenth trip over 1,000 miles; and our fifth trip over 2,000 if we get home.

Just over 2000 miles of journey to Nova Scotia and back. Stock 1600 dual port, RGB tranny, new tires - no mechanical problems except a leaky valve cover gasket. 21-22 US mpg. Pretty back country roads in Nova Scotia.

Wow! Ded's Youtube above on his Colorado/Utah trip is about the best advertisement for travelling with family in a VW bus that I have ever seen. Great job (and it's his or her first post).

Earlier this year. Ended up being closer to 1600 miles with all the stops i made, google only lets you add so many stops. This was my first major trip in my bus and it was fantastic. 1600 dual port with a stock rebuilt trans. 16-18mpg towing the trailer at 55-60mph. Obviously this was a business/pleasure trip, Ill let you guess who funded this one.

Just back from a camping trip on the north shore of Lake Superior: cool driving, no bugs, camping areas full of senior couples. We then drove to Winnipeg to visit my brother. Total return distance Ottawa-Winnipeg: just over 3000 miles.

The bus ran well although I had to open the points every couple of days. Got about 22 mpg. Gas was expensive over the top of Superior with several tanks costing $5.70 (Can) for a US gallon.

The bus was a catalyst for conversations with others, from fellow campers to road workers to people in the grocery stores and coffee shops where we stopped. One Swiss couple in a 5 month tour of North America in their own Italian RV (brave, brave people) leaped out of the cab and offered me the first eight months of pages from their splitty calendar.

I finally have a bed that is very comfortable in the back, and it made all the difference. It was nice once in a while to hook up to electrics and run a space heater in the evening when playing cards or reading.

We didn't see any VW this old on the trip but we were passed by a '53 or '54 Chevy four door rat rod that was even cooler than the bus. It had travelled from the west coast and was heading back.

It was a great trip.

This was my farest one back in 2000. From southern Germany to Finland (1500 miles) in winter! Only idiots do that when its -22 F. Had to push the bus off the ferry because the battery died. Bought a new one up there which still exists and works. Must be some kind of russian nuclear thing Wink . You had to keep breaking when starting the bus because the oil in the tranny got that thick it would immediately start the bus moving even whith no gear engaged... Scary!
