Hey Jay-
You stated that the fuel injection return line goes to the fuel tank vent line. How is your tank venting?

Note also the Fuel Injection "return" line penetrating firewall. This line goes into the stock VW "vent" gas line.

Mack, I have since changed my setup. I welded return bung into filler neck. I now use stock purge valve and charcoal can from stock vents. But originally since there are 2 vents on this bus, one was always left to vent to atmosphere.

Bump. So any new issues and or fixes? I just met with someone who wants to put a 2.5 in a 78 riviera. We will be tackling this in the fall/ winter. Will likely put the rad underneath between frame rails. Curious about the vss and removing the groundstrap. Ive put a 2.5 in my 87 syncro already using a small car setup. Thus im usually cruising the vanagon forum. Now researching the bay suby conversions. Any tips or posts that would be suggested are appreciated.

No Huge issues once the crazy ground strap issue was resolved. Pretty sure there was a ground loop through the starter robbing the ignition of power. Dont know how/why. Loving the bus. Upgraded to freeway flyer R&P transmission. Plenty of power to spare. I think keeping radiator out of engine bay is crucial. If you have rads under frame make sure there is a LED indicator for when fans switch on. I might recommend a manual transmission suby engine/ECM. Mine is auto and its a bit qwirky when engine is cold. (ENgine ramps down very slowly with clutch in changing gears.) Cheers. Contact me with any questions.

That really makes no sense! How did you figure out the issue? Subaru uses quite a bit of ground normally so to remove your main ground means it is no grounding through the clutch cable? I've had two mechanics, well the only two who have seen my swap, both tell me they think I should run another ground cable to my swap (2.2)

why?

as far as the auto trans, is your a/t m/t identifier terminal hooked up? are you running a VSS? my swap was from an auto, and no real issues. the idle "creeps" down just as it should.

how is the wiring for the NPS handled?

I am digging your bus! I'm doing and EJ22 swap into my '74 Riviera. I'm going to do a front mounted radiator as well. What did you use for coolant lines?
