Hey folks -- I'm new to this forum -- previous VWs: 64 Beetle, 71 Squareback and 2 72 Buses.
I'm looking to get into a Ghia and I have found a great one nearby, that has had light restoration and is really a 9 out of 10 on the outside, with no rust to be found. The interior is original without tears or cracks, but it's Orange.
Can someone help talk me into the fact that VW made orange vehicles and that I shouldn't be swayed away from it. There are others out there, but this one is really close by.
Thoughts? It's a 70 model. I am also looking at a Yellow 74.
Cheers and thanks -- |

They made Ghias in Amber and Blood Orange. See the "Paint/Upholstery" option under the "Technical" drop-down at the top of the page. _________________ '71 Ghia cabriolet |

Colour can always be changed and the 70s were an interesting time for VW colour choices haha.
Rust free ghias aren't in plentiful supply... if its a good price I'd grab it regardless of colour! _________________ 1960 Beetle ''Heidi" daily driver

x2!
Orange as an automobile color cycles back into popular style every couple of decades or so.
There are other VW colors that aren't quite as easy to live with during the "not currently in fashion" times, IMO.
... but then I'm also a big fan of the VW Thing, so I'm pretty used to the color orange. |

I think the bright colors of the 70s Ghias are what make them so cool. Amber (orange), Zambezi Green, Saturn Yellow. Super cool. I have a Saturn Yellow 73. People go crazy when they see it. |

I had a orange 73 "Thing" and loved the color, it was clearly part of the whole cars identity in a very positive way when people commented on it.
- never lost it in a parking lot either..... _________________ portland, or

The colors available for VWs in the 70's were perfect for the era.
There isn't a car manufactured today that has the nerve to sport a color anywhere near L20E!
The color goes from a soft and velvety glowing amber - to a race inspired splash of psychedelic Sunshine.
You'll never be accused of being subtle, quiet or trying to keep a low profile.
It's not like a Ghia would ever be lost in the sea of mediocrity anyway - so go for the bold. |

I'll have a test drive this week and given the response -- I'll learn to like the orange!
Thanks folks -- more soon I'm sure... |

The "safety" colors used by German manufacturers in the late 60's-early 70's are a cool detail of that particular era in automotive history.
From the KG to the 911, they look cool if kept "period correct," I say. _________________ David Ruby

Just thought of a potential drawback to buying an orange Ghia.
If you're the type of person that likes to rhyme things, you'd be out of luck with that particular color (or colour).

Orange is a very safe color--your retinal cells will pick up orange before darker colors--look dead ahead and move an orange or a dark green color foward in your peripheral vision--you will see orange first. _________________ Pat Daily

Great looking KG -- tell me about it--what year and number. Original paint or respray? How long have you owned it?

Here's another factory orange Ghia from the same few years as the one you are interested in. This is an older photo of a Ghia I saw in PA many years ago. Low-resolution scan of 35mm print film. The wheels are EMPI/Lemmerz Sprint Stars, 4.5" wide.
