|
|
Just wondering if anyone is running Mud Flaps on lowered buses and if they could post some pics?
I have a set of them that I want to install on my bus but would like to know others have done and what it looks like. Should the flaps be trimmed or mounted shorter to compensate for the low altitude?

on all VW's that I've had, or my friends have had, or that I have paid any attention to at all, the mudflaps are mounted as original, the mudflap bent backwards dragging and grinding itself off. This was back before the VWOA lawsuits when you could get mudflaps very cheap. You can still get cheap bus ones, but I did destroy a set of type 3 mudflaps doing this lol
I'm sure one could modify the bracket to make the mudflap sit higher |

Back in the eighties alot of us (in the bay area at least) used to run mud flaps with the VW logo. We thought it was cool to let them drag on the ground and wear down until half the logo was gone... |

Some of us still think it is cool. My DC was like that. I have another set for The "Goat-el" but it won't be lowered. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

Not looking to drag them and wear them off. I was hoping for the exact opposite. How to fit them not to drag.
I am not going to be a bumper dragger or a steering box scraper , just flipped spindles and a straight axle conversion...maybe 4" down, not much more.
No one running mud flaps on mildly lowered buses?

Here is a shot of my old '62 DC. Mild drop. The mud flaps were mounted using original brackets. Right after this pic I leveled it out by dropping the rear and the flaps just kissed the tarmac-
I went crazy a liitle later and installed Old Speed drop spindles for the BJ beam it had installed, reindexed the adjustable springplates and drug the flaps on the road. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

There we go. that is what I was looking for.
Now was there any mods to installing them? or was it by the book stock, and that is where they sit?

Pretty simple man, you want them higher? Punch a couple holes in the flaps down lower to bring them up. No need to fuck with the brackets. The aftermarket ones are cheap. |

Nothing fancy. They were old, original bus brackets. I had a heck of a time figuring out how to install them. But finally found some pics. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon
