Building an engine for a customer and he has a 1.5 qt sump but it didn't have an extension tube. He ordered one but it didn't fit.

So I figured I'd make one. My first instinct was to make a "heat" fit like the crank gears. Did that but didn't like the idea of having to heat it back up in the case it needed to come off for some reason without cleaning everything up first.

I had some time the last 2 evenings so I made a shaft collar type clamp for it. Now that I have made it and test fit it IMO this is the way they should be made. It is solid and easily installed/removed, which I like cause now I can break the cam in without the sump and then install it, saving him a couple quarts of break-in oil.

I know many people don't have issues with the hose clamp method. I just see this as an alternative and IMO a sturdier one.

I started to make some like that, but got side tracked & brazed it on.adding a "o" ring grove to each end of the collar was my plan,Ill probably do it for my next motor. a push lock type would also be nice. nbrazing is a pain in the ass but the way some of the tube are effed up nowdays makes it nessary.gladd I have some good tubes for my stuff.

Looks nice. How about the length? Is it going to 'bottom' out in a stock filter or the drain plate. Stock pick-up tubes where modified by the factory to have a angle cut on the end when they came out with the 1600. IMO, drill holes along the length to increase the suction 'area'.

Length is "standard" for the 1.5 sump. I made it the same length and the one he purchased. I need to mock it up with the sump and screen in it but it should be right. If not I can chuck it back up in the lathe and trim it as needed.

You can buy those collars made in different diameters. Maybe not the right size for a pickup tube though.
