Well, i found this old bus recently & figured i'd post a thread on here. It is a 79 sage green & mexico beige kombi. Has what seems to be the orig. fuel injected engine, & has the air conditioning unit & gas heater still hooked up so i may have some questions about that stuff also. Here are some pics as found.

Hauled her home, put in a new battery, cleaned her up, flushed the gas tank, and installed a new fuel filter & a couple fuel lines. Then removed a small rats nest from under the rear seat, and beat the front end out a bit with a 2x4. here she is now.

The engine seems to run great, has plenty of power (gave it a fresh oil change) & trans shifts beautifully. I noticed my hazard switch is busted so i'm guessing that's why my turn signals don't work, i'd like to try and test out the gas heater Very Happy

That's a great color combination and that bus looks like a good restoration candidate. Would be exciting to see it returned to its former glory!

Wow a gas heater and air conditioning! Somebody paid a lot for that bus back in the day. On your gas heater all you have to do is take out the fuel pump and apply 12 volts. If it clicks thats great. If it doesn't spray carb cleaner in either end and tap on it with a hammer until it clicks when 12 volts is applied. Also take off the combustion fan and clean and check the gap on both sets of points and I bet it would fire right up. Mine did anyway. Also that DPD air conditioning works really well when it is up and running. It would probably be good to update the compressor.

These are the guys for all things air conditioning.

Hey, thanks for the encouraging words everyone. I will try that out with the gas heater tootype2crazy. Today i fired up the AC & the overhead fan was a bit noisy, i think there are a few wasp nest left in there or something. Spent most the day at my friends loading up to go get another bus for him tomorrow, but got a few detrimental things done to the bus today!!!
Changed out points, cap, & rotor. Replaced air filter with a new one i found in the back of the bus.

Here is a short video of the bus, The generator light just quit working all of the sudden & the engine compartment needs a good cleaning along with a new foam seal, but she should be road ready very soon

Sweet. That has a lot of potential, and is one of the beautiful color schemes to be had.

Dang, you got a nice deal. I guess you know what to do about the rust, too, could probably get a pipe welded on the muffler.

Green with envy.

Yeah, i'm pretty happy with her. We picked her up with no known history, so was expecting the engine to knock or something, but when it fired right up i was shocked!
Yesterday i blasted the engine compartment out with the hose & cleaned it up a bit, installed a new foam seal.

Then i found this muffler in the backyard that was decent, so i painted it, bolted on a new tail pipe & mounted it up.

I think i mounted it up there wrong, but i found another big hole in the exhaust pipe behind the CAT so it will all come back off eventually.
Then i took her for about a 25 mile drive today, and was going 70+ mph with plenty of power to spare Very Happy Just didn't want to push it with those old tires on there still

Man, that is so clean under there! Still have the numbers on the cross beam, too! Don't paint over those. Are those gas adjust shocks?

I am in the process of removing the old rubberized undercoat on my pristine 78. I am using a needle scaler to knock of the heavy stuff followed by a wipe with gasoline. Leaves it beautiful under there.

Wow! I have a '79 that used to be sage green and Mexico beige. Until someone put an extremely thin layer of metallic brown over the top of the green. I wasn't sure if I wanted to take it back to the original color, but now I think I'm in love! Mine has a gas heater as well, but no air conditioner. Very nice!

Yes, sage green is such a beautiful color. I could crawl under my bus & just scrub OG paint all day! Luckily in my case here i had no undercoating, just a layer of dirt & grime that came off with some AJAX and lots of elbow grease.
I have removed undercoating before using a propane torch & a scraper, i'm sure gasoline would work as well

It ain't gonna be that shiny, but it is very, very clean and nice. I suppose you could wax and buff your underside if you want. Shocked
