I came across this little beauty last week when a friend informed me of a couple of old VWs that had showed up at a local junk yard. When I went to investigate, I fell in love with this little gem. I’ve never owned a Ghia but I would love to take this one home with me.

I believe it’s a ’59 and is incredibly solid for what I usually see in the way of Ghias out here. Unfortunately I just don’t have the money available to get it. Hopefully it won’t just be parted out in the yard. This car is way too awesome. I’m sure someone will buy it, I just wish it was me.

It looks solid. It even has an engine. How much do they want for it and where is it located?

According to the World Health Organization, the going price for the seller of a kidney is around $5,000.

I guess you'll need to consider a more valuable organ.

The car is really solid especially for its age and where it is located. The passenger side flore pan needs to be replaced. It's not dragging, but I'd hesitate to sit in the seat. There is also some rust issues in the right rear of the engine compartment. However the rest of the car appears solid. Very rare for a car left outside in western Washington.

I guess the story is the car came in a mass purchase of around 50 vintage automobiles from a single source (including 3 Ghias and 2 split Single Cabs). The issue is they all supposedly had titles. Turns out this may not be the case. I guess the yard is figuring out they paid too much for the lot. They want all they can get out of each car. The numbers I’m hearing on this Ghia is $2500 if they come up with a title. If they don’t they want all they can get without one. Or it may end up in the yard.

I’d talk with the owner but I think they are hoping to get top dollar for these things and I just can’t afford it. I’ve already lost my TV and the propane is out so No hot water. I’m hurting here and already trying to sell off my stuff to pay the bills. Anyone want to buy a supper sweet ’76 Nova? Wink

Hmm. I could use $5000! And if I sell them both…. Shocked

I saw that car on craigslist before they put a price on it a couple of weeks ago and thought about making an offer, though I realize now their price is well above what I am willing to spend on it. It does look complete and I'm surprised it's still there. Hopefully they can come up with the proper paperwork for it.

As for the red Ghia beside it, that thing's been on and off craigslist for a year or more, they just want way too much for that one!

Saw it too... Started out as "offer", then posted for $2500, now posted for $3000! They keep changing their mind on price... Looks pretty complete and solid, wish my old '58 was that complete and solid before I restored it! Even at $3000 it seems like a good price...

I agree with 1958Ghia. I paid over 2500 for mine off eBay and it wasn't that good, I really love the interior, I bet it would clean up nice and be good patina driver.

Beautiful car, and a great buy. I hope they figured out something with the paperwork and you got a good deal.

If you need help with anything up here shoot me a PM and I'll do what I can to assist. Plenty of room on my property if you cant get it home right away as well.

I look forward to seeing what you can do with it. Hopefully it's back on the road soon.

I'm jealous as hell by the way.

Great score! After seeing this forum and the price, I was trying to figure out how to convince my wife to not divorce me after I dropped some coin on that car and had it shipped back to Chicago.... Can't wait to see your progress. My '73 is not stock as I re-did it for my personal taste as a driver, but I had talked myself into trying to make that '59 as a gorgeous example of a '59 ghia as it looked on the showroom floor almost 50yrs ago. Early birds get the worms!! Great, great score!

I think I'm going to do an old eighties trick and carefully cut bug headlights into it.. it gives these old ghias a killer Porsche look!

Damn! I could hear the collective groan from the purists all the way over here in Chicago. Smile

I'm no purist by any means, and I would be the last one to ever tell someone what they should or shouldn't do with their own car.
I am even willing to freely admit that I actually like the look of bug headlights in a Ghia.
Having said all that ... it seems to me that - IMHO - a car that old that has managed to survive this long and still be in such decent shape may be better served by retaining the original "lowlights" that it was born with.

Now if the headlight areas were already badly damaged or rusted beyond repair, then Bug headlights might make sense.
As your car sits, the headlight areas appear to be in great condition and any modifications would only detract from that sexy drop line that Karmann gave it.

Again, just my own personal (and mostly worthless) opinion.

Oh, and congrats on the purchase - Nice score!
I can't wait to see whatever it is you do with it.

You're kidding, right?

Please...don't try for a "killer Porsche look" on that very well preserved lowlight. If you want to play around like that, start with a banged-up '73 or '74. Nice early Ghias are few & far between...don't ruin this one.
