I need to replace the alternator in my 73 Thing (converted from gen to alt). Would it be a problem to run a 75 amp alternator instead of the 55 amp?-Would it heat up or stress the stock wiring? I plan on adding a mild stereo system and off road lights (2) in the future-thanks.

Okay I think 75 mp will be okay assuming my wiring is ok. The reason I am replacing is that I am only getting 12.2 volts at battery in all RPM ranges.

Its worthwhile to do, carcraft selling 75amp plain or chromesi believe for 99$. Your wiring will be ok. All additional add ons i paralleled a 6 position ext box and run additional electronics off that.

I would agree with everyone else. If you're going to upgrade, might as well get the bigger one I think they're the same price at the moment. If you've never been to car craft they're right there off la cadena just north of the 91/215 interchange on the east side of the freeway. Don't be an idiot and drive 4 miles down the west side of the freeway because google maps showed up upside down on your phone like some of us Embarassed

I have been running one in my buggy for almost two years now.

I think I paid $87.95 plus shipping for it. It cleans up the wiring really nicely.

Wasn't 73's Alternator w/ separate voltage regulator? If in fact yours was converted to straight alternator the regulator under the pass rear seat should be gone and rewired.

If you still have that regulator, why don't you check that?
