New black and yellow plates issued by the DMV in CA

I just learned that the DMV in CA is going to offer Legacy Plates. These are their plates that were issued in the 50's 60's and 70's.

They are offering the yellow with black lettering, black with yellow lettering and the blue with yellow lettering.

They are currently only taking preorders and will not make a production run unless they get a request of 7500 before January 2015.

They are not going to be exactly the same as the originals. They will have reflective paint, places for registration stickers (the yellow ones don't have the 2 spots for stickers) and they will be made of aluminum instead of steel. Still pretty cool!

They have about 5500 per-registrations, need another 2,000 in the next year and a half.

Aren't they going to be dimensionally flat also?
