Not true, folks use all kinds of stuff to fix those floors. I personally use newspaper and por 15, then bondo, works way good at keeping my feet off the asphalt. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. Took the bus out for a 471 mile trip down the Ca coast yesterday. I will post the details in another thread. Here is a picture of the first layer of Herculiner.

Here is a picture with new carpet. The carpet and the Herculiner work very well together. The rubber tackyness of the liner holds the carpet in place. Once the heat allows the carpet to rest the ripples will smooth out.

While it is true that one day I may be referred as the PO. I still find it amazing the things that people do. It appears that the PO put the carpet down with liquid nails..Uhggggg. 1.5 hours of scraping!!

Motor question, valves set, points set, timing set, if all are perfect and you get the occasional backfire on deceleration could this be a fuel air mixture problem? _________________ Ian: 69 Kombi Delux |

Tighten all your exhaust bolts. Usually backfire on deceleration is an exhaust leak. When I first go my bus it did the same thing, I replaced all the seals on the heater boxes and exhaust and the problem went away for a long time. Just started doing it again just before I changed motors so I didn't worry about replacing seals again. |
Can this be the only cause or can a rich mixture also be the culprit?? _________________ Ian: 69 Kombi Delux |

I have finally got all the carpet and sound dampaning material out of the back top deck, what a pita!!! The area at the back the liquid nails was hard and chipped when scrapped, however at the front it is still semi soft and a total mess. Pics soon. _________________ Ian: 69 Kombi Delux |

Some quick updates. I got the back clean after a lot of scrapping, I then decided that it was time to pull the motor and reseal it to stop the leak. It really only appears to be leaking from the front main seal but since I dont know the motor I thought it best to go thru it. I took the bus to my friends house to use his lift and took it apart, as suspected the rear seal had a nick causing the leak, My cylinder tins were both cracked so I bought new ones and prepped and painted them before putting it all back together. After some friendly persuasion the tins were in place and the motor is ready for install. The PO told me that the motor had less than 10000 miles on a rebuild and by what we found I suspect that this is a true statement, It looks to be a long block built by JCS (stamped on the heads). I have read both good and bad stuff here on the samba about this builder, lets hope that I fall into the good category!!! Here are some pics.
