I couldn't find a official camping thread so I'll post here.

This weekend we camped 3 nights in Pagosa Springs, Co at the 4 Corners Folk Festival. My wife vended her jewelry and made a killing! Since she was vending we got to camp right near the main stage in vendor camping. It was alittle tight, so I couldn't set up the side tent. But the weather was beautiful and we were in a pine forest with huge trees so it was ok.

Filled up on weds, commuted to work 2 days drove 120 miles round trip to the festival. Avg 19.8 mpg on that tank. Not to bad

Doing my best.

Don't think I'll break my 2014 miles but I'm doing my best. Already tripped it to Tucson, we're planning on the VW on the Green event in Denver, the Medano Pass Muster and a So Cal trip in July.

I have a few upgrades planned in the next few months, hard to choose what to do next.

Rich,

What do they do exactly when they "rebuild" the steering gear? Is it just a clean up, reseal, readjust and spray paint it or do they do more? What ball joints did you go with brand wise?

This is what Bus Boys does, the remanufacturing is done in house.

"Our Steering Boxes come fully remanufactured from the ground up with machined and polished Steering Wormshafts, Steering Pegs, Output (Pittman Arm) Shafts and New Seals."

The ball joints are at the shop already, I'm gonna stop by there tomorrow I'll look at the brand the . For some reason I can't remember.

Hum.. I wondered about the steering gear reman as most only reseal them and then paint them. I'd wondered if they actually machined any of the parts or the bushing in the housing to insure it's tight to prevent any slop or play.

Keep us in the loop on what ball joints (brand) they pressed in. I just put in some Nakata's after reading thru these threads. They are a bit tight driving it. It's not horrible but I'm hoping they do loosen up with usage.

What a fun day. Drove the bus 50 west to Cortez and picked up my VW mechanic. We went for a ride so I could show him some things that were going on. The. Engine was sounding a bit grumbly and it was having a bit of hesitation. As we drive around he heard and felt what I did. We pulled over retarted the timing 2*, there was a noticeable difference in the sound and performance off the line. Then we went to the Cortez Brewery and had lunch. The burger was good and the beer was even better. It was cool to sit a chat it up with him over some food, he's good people.

We spoke about a thread I read in the engine forum about Chinese 009s. He agreed that their curve sucked and a real 009 would certainly be better. So...on the hunt for one of those.

Ball joints will be Nakatas, which is also the brand tie rods and drag link I'm running.

Many things being done to the bus this time around. It's been 9 months and almost 10,000 miles since its last visit. Not to bad for a DD.

Here is a pic of the full flow I had added to the engine back in August 2014. I've posted the pic on a different thread but wanted to update this one with the pic. Major difference, oil temps dropped 40* from a consistent 220* down to a consistent 180*. Well worth the investment!

Had to have a custom mustache bar made so I could run the CB 30mm in/out oil pump.

Po left me with a solid one like that. I'm thinking of redoing it because its low down to eliminate the rubber mounts. Then I can steal another thing from your bus Wink
