Camp site over looking a nice valley. Leaving the bus at the campsite and taking the wife's car to the MTB trails, then I'm headed back in the wife's car because I have to work tomorrow. . Leaving the bus for her to camp the next two nights in. I'll be back on Tuesday morning.

Showed up to the campsite in Pagosa at 8 this morning. Wifey went to the festival and I took a 3 hr nap in the bus, soooo compfy! Got a visit from a Forest Ranger, he was just checking to make sure all was good and our fire was out. Packed the bus up and went on a MTB ride in the Turkey Springs Trail System. It was a super fun pedal fest. Even found bus parking at the festival! Happy 4th!

The mini weekend road trip was 300 miles and we got 18.5 mpg. I've gotten better but the bus was loaded for the 65 mile drive home, which I went 60 the whole way even up the hills.
Lil P and I have the bus loaded and we're going wheelin today! _________________ __________

Today Lil P. and I took the bus up forest road 578 from Purgatory to Rico over Bolam Pass. What a awesome day of wheelin in the high country! I did this because this is the first leg of the off road trip I'm hosting in 3 weeks and wanted to get a feel for the road. It was rocky and clearance was necessary. I stopped 4 times to move rocks and one of those times I stacked rocks to make a 12" ledge. Bus did great and never hit the underside once, hit 11,300' (bus idled at 800). Done 440 miles in 8 days!
Photo dump.

After the trip I changed the oil, checked the valves, cleaned the UNI prefilters and the engine bay, also adjusted the brakes again. Good braking is a must! _________________ __________

I just had my second oil filter fail in 3 years. Both times the anti-drainback valve failed, or was faulty. Last summer a Fram Tough Guard failed. I had changed the oil and checked it in the morning and the case had an extra Qt in it, wtf. I posted about this when it happened. I ended up buying a K&N as a replacement and it was fine. I didn't buy the K&N cause it's a K&N, I bought it cause it was the only other choice at the time, small town BS. Several K&Ns later the one I just installed on Saturday failed, sum bitch! Got another one tonight after work, primed it to get the oil out of the case and fired it up. Went for a cruise around the hood, checked the oil and it was at the normal level. _________________ __________

Headed up to the high country today with Samba member Mtnbus. We scouted another route for my off road trip. This route looks better and will be alittle easier on our buses.
Topping Hotel Draw, 10,600'.

Mtnbus and is '62 deluxe crossing Hermosa Creek. We crossed that Creek twice today. Good times!

Today is day 5 of my 11 day vacation. The Bone Bus had taken me to many great MTB trails this week. Even took me to a race at Purgatory Ski Resort. We I'll spend the next 6 days and 5 nights camping at the Four Corners Folk Festival. Packing the bus now, can't forget the side tent.
Near the Dry Fork Trail Head
After the race at the ski resort on Sunday I found this sticky note on my drivers door.

Awesome trip with 5 nights of camping in the bus! The engine ran good, nice and smooth. Temps were not a issue and neither was the load, we flew up the hills at 60-65. Got 140 miles on 1/2 a tank and didn't use any oil. Another festival in the books!
Campsite
Little rain and a lot of dust!
I believe this to be 140,000 on the bus. 48,000 put on by me in the last 6 years!

Ive been working on trying on getting rid of carb soak. I know this is kinda a sore subject, so just here me out.
I run my bus on the climb home from town which is 1000, from 6800 to 7700. Speed limit is 65, the engine has no issues with this but i usually cruise at 60. Anyway, this is plenty of time to heat everything weather its summer or winter.
Ive found that if I let the engine run for a minute or so after I park it there is very little carb soak. I dont even hear any gargling form the carbs.
I dont know shit, this is just working for me.
