can anyone tell me the total advance for a 1.8L with an 009? also, is the t4 firing order that of the earlier motors? i.e. 1-4-3-2 or is it 1-3-4-2? thanks! |

No bus left the factory with a 009 so the bentley won't have any information on it.
The firing order is 1-4-3-2. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

Those engines like 7.5 BTDC advance at idle. All other values (TDC, 5 ATDC, 10ATDC) are smog settings.
The 009 advances 22-24 degreed maximum so the total advance from 7.5 would be about 30-32 degrees. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

Looking at the stock distributors for the years that the 1800 was available and taking into account the mechanical and vacuum advance it appears 44-45 is the answer.
Because of the limited advance of the 009 you have to run your idle advance at 20-23 degrees to get the most out of it. Doesn't seem ideal. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN
