Anyone know how many Westys were produced in the last years 1987-1992(?)
Current supply is sparse, and demand is very high.
A friend has asked me to locate a clean 87 or newer (grey interior)
I'm finding very few of these on the west coast that are not in need of $$$
(she wants to camp in it Now, not restore it or worry about head leaks).
Her budget is $12-17K, I believe that is realistic.
for low miles / kept in garage / super clean Westy. |

My experience has shown Westys can be very reliable
IF maintained and serviced regularly. I always have AAA Plus
for my cars, essential these days.
I ran out of gas a couple of weeks ago (first time in twenty yrs)
and AAA was there in twenty minutes, gave me three gallons @ no cost.
Similar to early Porsche 911, if neglected they will bite you.
if maintained/serviced by the book, can be very reliable.
Got to look under the hood and catch problems early.
I've owned the following :
'74 westy - no problems except it was ugly.
'76 westy - had engine rebuilt by Porsche specialist, dual Webers, no problems.
'87 syncro westy - bought @ 7K miles, regret selling !
'87 westy - no problems 60K-125K, regret selling.
'89 westy - inline Audi 4 cyl CA BAR legal - the best yet. |
