In other interesting news....
I was poking around on the internet for anything on the Eyerly Volkswagen that's on my license plate frames and I found this pic. Not only is it a super-cool picture, but if you look at the license plate closely, it reads: 8D-7746
Then, check out my plate:

And then lastly, this was under the back seat of the ragtop. Is there anything I can do to get this fixed up? Can they be found anywhere? It's made out of like a rubberized plastic with a metal frame.

Wow, Amazing!!! Great find.
Do you think I could ask you to PM me or post the measurements of that tool pouch and even a few close up photos? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be interested in re-making one.
Thx

Here's some close-up/detailed pics of the tool pouch
Let me know if you need anything else. It's soaking as I type this. I'll post pics after it's cleaned up a bit. _________________ -Greg |

I did not know that the tool pouch or tool roll for the oval window cars could have been made from the leatherette-type material. I had always thought it was made from canvas. The one that came with my all-original 1957 Type 1 is made of a green canvas material, and the binding that was used on the carpeting edges is used to tie it closed. I have seen leatherette/plastic tool rolls used in the VW cars from the 1960s, such as the 1967 Type 1 I had years ago, which was made from a grey plastic material..
Regards,

Right on bro! Nice to see old VW's surface here in OR! I just picked up my own 56 oval rag that came with a parts oval as well. We'll have to cruise em down the coast someday. Excellent score my friend. Rub off all that nasty white paint back to the og black thats hiding under there! |

Sorry for the lack of updates but there's a pretty good reason...
My wife lost interest in the gold car and decided that she wanted a Squareback or a nicer bug. After hearing that I might be parting the car out, a friend of mine got ahold of me because he wanted the pan and the vin plate from the spare tire well and we agreed upon a price. I would then cut the metal out of it that I needed and use that for the ragtop, then sell off what I didn't need. I grabbed my sawzall and cut out about a 12"x6" metal section surrounding the front VIN plate, set it on the garage floor and then stopped. I just hated the thought of cutting this car up and that was as far as I was going to be able to go that day. It just made me sick. My friend got a hold of me that afternoon and he wanted to come look at the car and was entertaining the idea of buying it as a whole, which he did. Another friend of his had been looking for an oval for a while so he basically bought it for him. The new owner went straight to work and got the car put back together. You know the saying "Saved from the crusher"? Well, this one was "saved from the sawzall"!! Here is a picture of the car at the most recent NW Bug Run here in Oregon. I am SO happy that this car was saved (and at the very last minute) and put back on the road. The new owner loves the car and does not envision ever letting it go!

Nice to hear it was saved!! Saw it at Woodburn, and liked the look, except for the silly ride height. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

At this same time, I was wanting to get a split bus project. When this same friend made me an offer on Abby, I reluctantly sold her as well. And I've been sad...
...until yesterday when I bought her back!
He was going to make her into a vintage rally style/hill climber but luckily for me, didn't get too far. He also removed quite a bit of the white paint.
Now, this thread will probably go dormant for a while again as I am just about finished up with the restoration of my '65 Bug but I have the Bus in the lineup to be done next. I will however, probably work on her a little bit here and there and will post up progress photos when there are any. The plan is to stay the original course and do a complete, pan-off restoration and I will hang onto her for good. For those of you that are excited to see the original black paint underneath, I can report that sadly, the paint, while nice in some areas, is not in others. There are a ton of sanding swirls and it's just not nice enough to leave as is so she will be stripped down and restored. Thank you for following along! _________________ -Greg |
