1958-64 measures 1752mm in length
1956-67 measures 1789mm in length
A 1956 e-brake handle is the same as used on 1956-64 Beetles. 1965 the e-brake handle changed _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

The relative position and location of the brakes do not change when switching transaxles (with the exception of wheel cylinder as noted below). The chassis determines the correct cable style, so which chassis do you have? 57 ebrake cable flex housings enter the backing plate from the rear which means you need to turn the backing plates 180 degrees or switch them left or right depending on whether you want the wheel cylinder on top or bottom.
Wolfsburg West has some good information on the different lengths of cables used.

1958-79 all use the same spring kit.
If you've got '65 backing plates, use 1965-67 wheel cylinders & shoes. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a
