|
|
I am thinking of replacing the heater hoses on my Westy. But a trip is coming up and I am not sure it can be done before that. My question is does the fuel tank need to be dropped in order to replaced the front to back runs? There are ties that I can see when the hoses are exposed, but I don't remember if there are any above the tank. If there are, it will make ti very difficult to feed then through the ties again with out dripping the tank.
Please answer my question only if you have done this before. _________________ Steve

I didn't need to remove my tank. There were some ties but I was able to reach into the "saddle" above the tank and cut them. Once the ties were cut, I used a barbed fitting to attach the new hose to the old one, then pulled the old one out - simultaneously pulling the new one into place.
Dealing with the coolant loss and subsequent air bleeding were (for me) a far bigger hassle than swapping the hoses. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

Thank you very much for the tip. Good to hear I don't need to drop the tank. Dropping the tank means I must have enough clearance under the van to remove the two straps and it is a pain. _________________ Steve

Speaking of coolant hose replacement, the P.O. used almost exclusively the normal style worm gear clamps unlike the GEMI style.
Is this what most people are using ? My few silicone hoses I got from Van Cafe have the smooth type but trying to find any here locally ( Toronto Canada ) is proving to be a challenge. The local parts stores look at you like you're from Mars ....
Where are people getting their smooth faced clamps from ? I need to order a pile up for the rest of the hoses !
Cheers,
