|
|
My 67 bus has developed some fuel related issues related to the fuel tank.
Originally, the buses did not come with a vented fuel tank cap and now as the fuel level decreases in my tank I am developing a vacuum in the fuel tank. I need to find a vented fuel tank cap to solve this problem.
Can anyone direct me to where I can find a vented fuel tank cap for a 67 bus?
I tried Wolfburg West and they did not carry one and could not direct me where to find one.
Help.
Thanks |

I found a generic one that fits. It says "vented" on it but I am not convinced that it actually is. I sold the bus this one was on but as luck would have it, am actually going to buy one today for my single cab. Let me know if you find it to actually be vented. Sucking through the nipple, I could not tell if it was actually vented or not. scroll down.

The original cap was vented. Do a search. A vented 60mm cap can be found at any napa. I have one I got for $4 at napa last week _________________ 1966 Velvet Green Standard |

you could always drill a very tiny hole in the center of the cap until you find a vented cap. you don't want to risk screwing up the tank. i bought a WW cap and it wasn't vented and it caused my original tank to collapse within itself and crack on the bottom. i bought a new tank, drilled a hole in the WW cap and its been problem free ever since. _________________ Missouri Micros |

Ask for a '66 Ford F-100 cap. Same cap as aftermarket Stant. |

yes you need a vented cap; your tank will implode and then leak w/o one
look in the classifides; i see og vented logoed caps all the time for 20-30 bucks, sometimes cheaper _________________ WANTED:

I have a stant 10623. It is vented with a ball (shake it) so it wont leak. Please no one drill a hole in a gas cap when a perfect replacement is available for $5 down the street. My OG cap leaks on sharp lefts. The stant passed the ultimate test (full throttle left hand gravel driveway drifting with a full tank.) Search title only "gas cap" and you can have hours of reading _________________ 1966 Velvet Green Standard |

That sounds like exactly what I need. The gas caps on all four of my busses have leaked when the filler neck in on the low side. It's a pain to only pump a couple of gallons and then still have to back into the parking space to keep the cap on the high side. _________________ Judy

The cap I have in my spare parts is Napa Balkamp part #703-1220. It is chrome, and has a smooth domed shape. The other is part #703-1033 for these caps (which I wrote on the box for future reference) and as I recall is cad plated with a handle on it. Otherwise they are exactly the same, and they are vented. _________________ nothing |

I looked in the LMC Truck catalog and '57-'70 F-100 and 250 pickup inside-cab tank caps (vs side-saddles) are the same as the VW bus vented caps, in case the parts guys don't want to look up VW. |

Bought the 10623 today. Local NAPA only had one. Will go to another Monday. Haven't filled the tank yet to test, but I am very optimistic. Thanks so much. _________________ Judy

ironically when you started this post, I had just started rebuilding the fuel system in my single cab. I was having a horrible gas smell inside the cab anytime I drove or filled it up. It would also leak out the fill tube anytime I turned left. Yeah....safe! So, I took out the baywindow tank and am replacing it with a correct split tank. Turns out whoever installed the bay tank didn't plug the vent lines. I guess that explains part of the gas smell. Ill be buying the stant today as well. This thread was perfect timing. |

OMG!!!!!!!
I filled the tank today for the first time in years. NO LEAKING!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I have been futzing with this problem for 33 years. Even asked a time or two on this forum. All I got was "Just what kind of slope do you park on?"
Now it drives better and sounds better. I am a happy happy girl. _________________ Judy

Its a beautiful thing when your gas is not spilling out into your engine bay. I dont know why people value OG gas caps. Mine is in the junk drawer _________________ 1966 Velvet Green Standard |
